Written by: Josh Griffin, Principal As mentioned in last week’s edition, with the approval of the Jeffco Schools Board of Education, along with the implementation of funding from the 2018 bond approved by Jeffco voters, D’Evelyn will see a number of renovations and expansions over the course of the next 18 months. I will continue to keep the community updated on important developments that may impact students, staff, and parents as we proceed with the construction, but wanted to provide a more details overview of the expected improvements. Additionally, we have included some graphics / design prints that may be helpful in understanding the plans going forward. D’Evelyn Main Entrance and Front Office Renovations During the summer of 2021, the Main Entrance and Front Office will be renovated. The primary purpose of this renovation is to create a more secure front entrance to the school, where all visitors during the school day will be directed to one particular check-in location. This will vastly enhance the security of our school throughout the day. In order to achieve this primary objective, we will need to remodel and redesign the Main Office. As a result, the Main Office will be closed for substantial periods during the summer (if not the entire summer). We will keep our community updated on the direct impact the office closure will have this summer, as well as how students, staff, and families can connect with school personnel that work over the summer. We are grateful to have this opportunity to redesign our Main Entrance. This project is supported by bond funding from the measure passed in 2018 - thank you to the Jeffco voters that supported these important improvements for our schools and many others. D’Evelyn Instrumental Music Room Renovations & Expansion As part of the transition to the new 6th grade wing, we are redesigning several classrooms that serve elective courses and extracurricular activities. During the summer of 2021, we will expand and renovate the D’Evelyn instrumental music classroom. This expansion will allow for more students in music class, but more importantly, will reduce the impact of the noise level on the ears of our students and teachers. The renovation will also allow us to increase and improve storage for student musical instruments in and around the instrumental music classroom. This improvement to the instrumental music room will allow more students to safely participate in instrumental music classes at D’Evelyn for many years in the future. This is an important opportunity to support the growing, award-winning music program in our school. D’Evelyn 6th Grade Wing Addition The 6th grade wing addition will begin construction this spring. Right now, we plan to begin the construction process in May 2021. Please note that the presence of construction crews and their progression through the work will have an impact on available parking and traffic in the east parking lot . We appreciate the patience, understanding, and most importantly, caution of our student and family drivers in this parking lot during the period of construction. The new addition will include six academic classrooms, with two of those six serving both traditional and science academic purposes. Additionally, there will be one new art room and a new fitness room. The current fitness room will be transitioned to an additional music classroom beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. With this addition and the associated renovations, we have a unique opportunity to not only serve the long-term academic needs of our 6th grade students, but also provide updated, improved classroom spaces to support musical, artistic, and athletic classes and extracurricular activities. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school, and I know that it will serve the needs and interests of our students for many years into the future. We appreciate the support and commitment from the Jeffco Schools Board of Education, who supported this building expansion and the addition of the 6th grade program at D’Evelyn. New all-weather athletic field and track As you may have noted by the heavy machinery and large piles of dirt on the west side of campus, our athletic practice fields are getting a huge upgrade, thanks again to the passage of the 2018 bond by Jeffco voters. Over the course of this summer and early fall, our construction crew will install an all-weather practice field and track, another huge upgrade to the facilities used by D’Evelyn students both for PE classes and athletic programs in our school. We are grateful for the vast support we have received to make these improvements to our campus. These additions and renovations will serve our students in the near and long term future of the school.

Over the last 20 years, the D'Evelyn DASH, which is a 5K or 2K run/walk, has grown into a huge community event that served as a fundraiser and a big-kick off to the school year. It is held in conjunction with the D’Evelyn hosted Cross Country meet. All funds raised by the DASH go to the D'Evelyn Education Foundation which supports our students and staff by funding academics, athletics, performing arts, scholarships, technology and textbooks, after prom events, junior high boosters, girls and boys mentoring, and teacher training, just to name a few. The monies provided by DEF benefit every student in some manner throughout their time at D'Evelyn.
