School funding is largely based on student enrollment and attendance during this window. We are reminding families of this event to stress the importance of proper attendance expectations for students and parents. During this time of Hybrid and 100% Remote learning, it can be confusing to know what to do when a child isn’t feeling well enough to attend school. Below you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions about attendance. What should I do if my child is marked absent but says that they attended the class online? If students are marked absent, families should contact the teacher to understand why the student was marked absent. This goes back to our A-B-C style of communication. Students, parents, and teachers should be directly communicating with one another. If there is an attendance correction to make, the teacher will email the correction to the attendance office. If my child isn’t feeling well on a day they are supposed to attend school, do I have to change them from hybrid to remote learning? No, when students are not feeling well they should be kept home from school. They can attend classes online without having to be changed to “Remote Learning”. However, it is important that parents call the attendance office (303-982-5771) to excuse their child from in-person classes on those days. Teachers are required to mark students absent when they don’t attend in-person classes, even if the students attend the class online and explain it to their teachers. A parent call is required. What if my child isn’t feeling well enough to actually take part in the online/remote classes? If your child is in the Hybrid or 100% Remote Learning model, and they are not feeling well enough to take part in their online/remote classes, parents will need to call the attendance office (303-982-5771) to excuse their child. It would be a good idea to add the attendance line as a contact in your phone. How do I know if my child is in the 100% Remote Learning model? Students that are in the 100% learning model will have an 8th period class titled “Remote Learning” in their schedule. If your child has been remote since the start of the year and you don’t see the “Remote Learning” class in your child’s schedule please contact their counselor. Can I still change my student to the 100% Remote Learning Model? Yes. Email the child’s counselor and let them know that you would like to change the student’s schedule to 100% Remote Learning. This change will be in place for the rest of the semester. Students should contact their teachers and let them know that they have made the change to remote. Teachers will then confirm with the student that they have contacted their counselor and have made the change officially, which can be seen by the addition of an 8th period class on their schedule called, “Remote Learning”. What is the “Remote Learning” class that 100% Remote Learners have on their schedule for 8th period? The 8th period on a schedule is just used as a placeholder to communicate certain pieces of information. In this case, the “Remote Learning” class indicated to teachers (as well as students and parents) that this student is attending all classes online. This is not an extra class that students need to attend, it just communicates that the student is in the 100% Remote Learning model. Written by: Lisa Porter, Teacher Librarian LIBRARY TO YOU Although students are not currently able to visit the library to browse our shelves, they can browse the D'Evelyn Library Catalog to access ebooks and put print books on hold! The books students put on hold will be checked out to them and made available for pick up in the library on our new hold shelf! How to Create Holds Using the D’Evelyn Library Catalog As library books and instructional materials are returned to the library, they will be “quarantined” for 72 hours before reshelving and/or recirculating per district guidelines. REMOTE/HYBRID LEARNING TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT During remote and hybrid learning, technical issues are more common. Due to increased demand for support and to help streamline our current technology process, we ask that parents and students go through the following procedures before requesting support. The Remote/Hybrid Learning Technology Support flowchart provides guidance for the most common issues and how to solve them. Written by: Greg Kottcamp, Assistant Principal When do students eat lunch? This year D’Evelyn will have three lunches: The first lunch period is from 10:35-11:05 The second lunch is from 11:25-11:55 The third lunch is from 12:15-12:45. Which lunch a student has depends what teacher he or she has for 2nd period on Monday and Tuesday and 5th period on Wednesday and Thursday. For example, if the students had an English teacher for 2nd period, they would have first lunch which means that they would go to lunch before going to English Class. If they had a Social Studies teacher, they would have second lunch which means that they would go to second period for 45 minutes, and then go to lunch, and then return to finish their social studies class after lunch. If a student had a science class for 2nd period, they would attend the class first for the full 90 minutes, and then go to lunch. What do students bringing lunch from home need to know? Students who bring their own lunch will need to store it in their backpack or lunch box/cooler. We do not have microwaves or hot water available this year, so lunches will need to be prepared as ready to eat at school. How do students/parents pay for meals at school? Hot lunches are free until December 31, 2020, as the USDA has funded them for the rest of 2020. There will be three entree choices to choose from each day that will be in a bag with fruit and vegetable. Students can choose another fruit and vegetable depending on grade level. Milk will also be available. Until further notice we will not be serving any hot a la Carte items such as pizza, tornados, hamburgers, etc... We will have some prepackaged a la carte items and drinks for purchasing. When students come through the line they will need to scan their student ID on the Pin Pad. Families that want to have students buy a la carte food at school can either set-up their Schoolcafe account. Parents can navigate to the Schoolcafe website through the Family Portal or going directly to https://www.schoolcafe.com/JEFFCOSD. How do the lunch lines work? Students go to the cafeteria following the directional hallways. Once they arrive at the cafeteria they will be formed into two lines that have spaces marked six feet apart. When it is their turn to order, students will need to talk clearly and loudly to Ms.Cravotta, letting her know what they would like to order. She will then ring up the item/s on the register and ask the student to scan their student ID Card. Students will be given a bag, and sent back to their assigned lunch location.
