Written by: Tony Adams, President During the 2020-2021 school year the D’Evelyn NJHS organization has held its long standing tradition of excellence in academics, school spirit, and community outreach, despite the numerous challenges presented due to the COVID-19pandemic. At the beginning of the school year the NJHS officers: Tony Adams (president), Grace Copland (vice president), Evelyn Oltmans (treasurer), and Lucrezia Connor (secretary) along with the NJHS staff leaders Ms. Johnson and Mr. Northway, were faced with the near impossible task of holding NJHS meetings, planning sessions, and events all completely remotely. This created numerous challenges such as getting students to participate, allowing our community to bond, and spreading the word about meetings and events. However, the entire D’Evelyn NJHS community came prepared to conquer these challenges together. The school year began with the Boon Supply Fundraiser. This was a completely virtual fundraiser that allowed users to choose from a wide variety of items and gifts to be purchased online. In total there were over $1000 in sales, over$500 of which went straight to NJHS. This money went towards both an inner city health clinic in Denver and the Presbitarian St. Luke’s hospital for children. In addition to this, the D’Evelyn NJHS program has continued its tradition of promoting generosity and dedication through individual service projects. This year, NJHS members accumulated over 300 hours of community service in total. These projects included peer tutoring, food drives, volunteer work, and much more community outreach. All in all, NJHS remains a successful and important group to our school and community as a whole despite countless hurdles to overcome. The organization serves as a reminder of just how big an influence a small group of teenagers can make when united under a strong sense of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. We encourage all NJHS members to continue to present these values in the rest of their academic careers, and we are more than excited to pass the torch on to the next group of students who I’m sure will work hard to spread hard work and positivity throughout not just our school, but the entire community. We want to wish you all a wonderful and well rested summer! We can’t wait to see you all again next school year. The counseling staff will be out of the office for most of June and July. We will do our best to reply to your questions and concerns in a timely fashion, but we will officially be back in the office at the beginning of August. Comments are closed.
