Written by: Jennifer Ford Hear ye, hear, ye! The procedure for buying novels for English classes has changed. Rather than pay a fee at registration and wait for English teachers to pass out novels during the school year, families will now need to visit the D’Evelyn Home page and click on “Academics” → “English Novels for D’Evelyn Families to Purchase.” There, you will find this link that lists all required novels for each grade level and their corresponding ISBN numbers. When ordering these required novels for the school year, families may use any book-buying sites. With this ISBN # information in hand, families should order novels for the upcoming school year so that students have them by the first day of school, August 17th, 2021. It is extremely important to search for books using the provided ISBN number to ensure that all students get the same copy with matching page numbers, thus guaranteeing more cohesive class discussions. All book-buying sites-- Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, Addall.com, and Abebooks.com, to name a few-- allow customers to search by ISBN number. When using Amazon.com, be sure to scroll past any sponsored ads to get to the correct book. Also, be careful: Sometimes Amazon suggests a similar book with a different ISBN number. Check “product details” for ISBN number match, and make sure the cover of the book you are purchasing matches the cover on the D’Evelyn book list. If the cover does not match, it’s most likely the same book under a different publisher with different page numbers, so please check another site. With this change, we are hoping that families will be able to buy books more affordably and more efficiently than before. In the age of online shopping, the new system allows families to transition into the widely-adopted practice of buying books off a school supplies list from different vendors. It also cuts D’Evelyn out as the middle man between students and their books, saving a significant amount of class time. Thank you for your attention to this new book-buying system. We hope it will bring more direct purchasing and savings for every D’Evelyn family!

I was able to find the correct books for the school year pretty easily since the ISBN and covers were provided. But I'm having a really hard time finding the right versions of the 7th grade summer reading books my student selected (Peter Pan and A Secret Garden). There are so many versions out there, and it's not so easy to determine which one is the best classic version for my incoming 7th grader to read. Is there any chance to provide an ISBN for those books also? Thanks! Comments are closed.
