Written by: Ralph K. Spencer, D’Evelyn Education Foundation Board of Directors As promised in last Sunday’s article, I am going to recap my earlier six articles this week, including only that information I believe is critical for parents and senior students to be aware of as the latter take the plunge and, for the first time in their young lives, apply for one or more of the D’Evelyn Education Foundation’s 24 scholarships worth $23,750. As a reminder, three seniors will also receive three awards worth $3,500 (a total of $27,250), the catch being that seniors cannot apply for these awards (see my 2/21/21 article for a full explanation of these awards). I will use bullets to keep the verbiage to a minimum and information to a maximum! Please keep in mind that, historically speaking, about 1 in every 1.3 students who apply for a scholarship, and three who may not have (see above), will be pleasantly surprised at the Senior Banquet! Good luck seniors - and parents! And now for the recap!!!
I hope this recap has been useful. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. McSwain if you have and questions about how to submit your scholarship applications. As of this writing, the April 7 due date for scholarship applications is a mere 25 days away! And finally, please recall that good luck is when opportunity meets preparation, while bad luck is when lack of preparation meets reality. Good luck to all! GO JAGS!!! Written by: Ralph K. Spencer, D’Evelyn Education Foundation Board of Directors Last week’s article centered on the what of the 14 of 24 scholarships that will be presented to seniors at this year’s Senior Banquet. This week I will be summarizing the remaining 10 scholarships. As noted in my last article, ALL the information I am providing here comes from the newly designed, and extremely valuable, Synopsis of D’Evelyn Education Foundation Scholarships and Awards (Synopsis). You may access this link by going to the D’Evelyn home page at develyn.jeffcopublicschools.org and clicking on the BRAND NEW green button entitled DEF Scholarships. This link will take you to the Scholarships & Awards page where you will see four BRAND NEW green buttons, one of which reads Scholarships Synopsis. Many thanks to Mrs. Lisa Bell for her invaluable help in creating these new buttons!!! Click on this link and you will see 5 pages of clear, concise information summarizing all 24 scholarships and the four awards to be presented this year, 27 of which will go to students, for a total of $27,250! In less than 10 minutes, students can determine which of the 24 scholarships they are eligible to apply for, along with other critical information they must be aware of when completing their applications. Unless noted otherwise, each of the scholarships listed below requires a completed DEF Scholarship Application Cover Sheet with required essay and resume as well as one letter of recommendation from NAVIANCE (the latter provided by counseling office personnel). Let’s take a look at the remaining 10 scholarships:
A particularly important tidbit: Parents and students – please take the time to review the individual scholarship applications found on the very same page as the Scholarships Synopsis button described in my very first paragraph, above. Additional information can be found in these applications, including valuable Selection Criteria that will aid the student in fully completing each of his/her applications. Next week, a recap of my five recent articles. Until then, GO JAGS! |
