As a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation is able to give those who donate the benefits of a charitable contribution. 100% of the money raised goes directly back to support the students of D'Evelyn. D'Evelyn has many important committees and boards who are always looking for new members and volunteers, these include: Steering Committee (S/C) ([email protected]) - The S/C's primary mission is to promote, interpret, and maintain the philosophy of the D'Evelyn Jr/Sr High School program as written in the April 1994 Program Document (Document) approved by the Jefferson County School Board. In this capacity, SIC members consider, prepare, write, and adopt policy necessary to uphold the school philosophy. Steering Committee serves as the governing board of the school (the only one of its kind in a Colorado public school) and assures that all students are held to rigorous academic and behavioral standards. The SIC consists of five parents, two teachers, and the Principal, each serving staggered 3-year terms (except the Principal, a permanent SIC member). This group is committed to the school's belief that a solid liberal arts education is required for citizens to be effective participants in their communities. The SIC considers recommendations from various groups and organizations as it goes through a thoughtful decision-making process respectful of differing opinions. In addition to the above, the SIC approves school curriculum (assuring that it remains true to the Document), fosters open communications with the District, reacts to new District policies and State laws, reviews/approves the school budget, leads the annual Principal evaluation, hires and, if necessary, recommends dismissal of the Principal to the District, and has at least one member on all faculty hiring and textbook selection committees. Accountability Committee (A/C) ([email protected]) - The A/C focuses on school improvement and serves as an advisory body to both the Principal and the Steering Committee. The A/C participates with the Principal and staff in the cooperative development of an annual accreditation plan. This group coordinates input from the Principal, staff, parents, students, parent/teacher organizations, community residents and others interested in improving education. It formulates goals based on local school needs, taking into account District and State-level goals. The A/C also provides a communication link between the school and other Area Accountability Committees. Parents interested in understanding more about D'Evelyn and its educational philosophy can obtain some of that information by attending A/C meetings. Any D'Evelyn community member may join the A/C by attending one of the first three meetings of the year. D'Evelyn Education Foundation/Board (DEF) ([email protected]) - The DEF is a registered, non-profit corporation created to improve the educational opportunities and resources for all students enrolled in educational activities at D'Evelyn Jr/Sr High School. It provides for cooperative partnerships between the school, the community, and local businesses. The DEF serves as the umbrella parent volunteer organization. The Board of Directors is the DEF governing body that sets policy and establishes the Foundation's strategic plan, supervises funding, supports activities to ensure the unified direction of the school, and directs all activities according to its Vision Statement. D'Evelyn Education Foundation Executive Director ([email protected]) - The ED’s responsibilities include management of DEF operations and oversight of programs, budgets, and fundraising, as well as serving as a liaison with appropriate D'Evelyn committees. The ED routinely appoints committee chairs to lead the various standing committees (see below). The ED reports to the DEF Board of Directors. Standing Committees fulfill specific, ongoing purposes relative to the Vision Statement and report to the DEF Executive Director. Parent volunteer activities are implemented through these standing committees, which include:

Graduation is best celebrated with your group of friends and family. So, when COVID-19 made getting together challenging, a little creativity went a long way. The class of 2020 celebrated their final year at D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School in a unique way: a car parade, along the roads stretching around D’Evelyn. Students adorned their cars with balloons, party streamers and paint. The seniors, who would have been celebrating in senior spirit week a month before, shared waves, smiles and air high-fives after over two months apart. The senior parade was put together by D’Evelyn’s Student Council and Administration, following Jeffco Public School’s announcement in April that graduation ceremonies would be postponed. “I think we all felt pretty discouraged at first and a little bit robbed,” said Holly McCollough, Student Council President. “D’Evelyn is a pretty hard school, so not being able to celebrate in those last two months with your friends through senior traditions and finishing that up with a graduation ceremony downtown was a little discouraging.” But the academic rigors of D’Evelyn prepared the seniors well when faced with a challenge. “As a D’Evelyn community, we are so much stronger and we can make the best of the situation, even if that means having five tests the next day,” McCollough said. “The parade was pretty symbolic of the unity we had as a community despite the coronavirus and the state of the pandemic.” Fortunately, McCollough said, the seniors had just finished putting together a group chat with most students. And without having to plan several small events like senior spirit days, the class could focus all their energy into one big event. “I think over the past month, me and a lot of other people came to terms with it. That’s why we wanted to plan the parade, to try to make the best of things and start something new that in the past we wouldn’t have had time or the resources to plan,” McCollough said. Working with the Administration and the D’Evelyn Education Foundation, a proposal to the district was given for the parade. McCollough said they were unsure how the district would handle the request, but felt seniors needed to celebrate some way, so a plan B and plan C were also made. Fortunately, the district approved plan A. Jeffco Public Schools plans to hold more traditional graduation ceremonies with social distancing in August. D'Evelyn’s is currently planned for Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at Jeffco Stadium. Written by: Holly McCullough, Cassidy Simpson & DHS Student Council

*Calling all student clubs and sport teams!!! Interested in having a booth at the DASH and earning some money for your club or sport? Contact [email protected] for details. Geri Williams, DEF Board Chairman Dear Family and Friends of the D’Evelyn Community, The D’Evelyn Education Foundation Board hopes that you and yours were able to enjoy Spring Break and unplug for at least a little while. We know that the outbreak of COVID-19 has had a notable impact on our community. We so appreciate the strength and support of all members of the D’Evelyn community during this difficult time. It is our sincere hope that we are all able to stay healthy and that the collective efforts of social distancing will keep all members of our broader community healthy. The D’Evelyn Education Foundation Board (DEF) and Staff are here to offer best wishes, and to let families know we are still working remotely to support D'Evelyn students and teachers as best we can (both short and long term). We are so incredibly proud of the administration, staff and teachers as the transition from a teacher-directed, whole-group instructional model to an online remote learning model was a seismic shift in educational practice. They have handled these changes in the most professional, timely and successful way possible. Normally this time of year, DEF sends out a fundraising appeal to raise the funds necessary to complete the fiscal year budget which supports D’Evelyn academics, athletics, performing arts and clubs. However, these are not normal times. Given the current situation, we do not feel that an appeal for donations is appropriate at this time. If you are compelled to donate to DEF, we are still accepting donations through our website HERE. We would, however, suggest that you consider contributing to the businesses that have supported DEF in the past. Our local business supporters who have so generously given to the D’Evelyn community are now in need of your support. Let us illustrate to them how incredibly grateful we are for their past generosity by frequenting their business. Now is the opportune time to give back to those who have charitably donated to our school. Below is a detailed list of supporters. Furthermore, it is always the right time to communicate our gratitude to our teachers, staff and administrators, but especially so now. They are dealing with the same new challenges that we are, in addition to adapting to a remote online learning model which supports our D’Evelyn students in continuing their education. Thank you for being a valuable community member and giving back! Come join a fun team! Here’s how you can get involved: Dash Chair: Are you good at organizing people? The Dash Crew needs you! We are looking for 1-2 people to shadow our current Dash chairs. We have all the information organized in google drive/gmail and we have an amazing team of volunteers for the various Dash jobs. You would just need to oversee the team and keep things moving along. Most work can be done at home and on your own time. Sponsorship: We are looking for 1-2 people to help with sponsorship. We have all sponsorship documentation in google drive, so you aren't having to "reinvent the wheel." We have also built a healthy list of sponsors. We just need people to follow up with them and keep things organized. Most of the work is done on the computer and during the months of March-May. Smaller Jobs: Not sure where you want to help or maybe you can take on pieces but not the whole thing? Email us at [email protected]. We can use your help in any way and would love to work with you!
