Each month coaches have the opportunity to nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. In order to be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches. Payton has been riding horses since she was four years old. Over the years she has accomplished a lot at local schooling shows on her horse Fancy and after acquiring a new horse this fall has been working towards competing in higher level shows. This fall she placed first in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association's (IEA) Regional Competition and Sunday, April 8 she was Champion in her division at the Colorado Hunter Jumper Association (CHJA) Spring into Spring show at Fox Hill Equestrian Center. At this same show, her horse Imperial T (also known as Ivan) took Reserve Champion. This was their first CHJA show together. Most recently Payton and her horse each took champion at the Gold Crest Charity Classic, Colorado Hunter Jumper Association (CHJA) show at the Budweiser Event Center Saturday, April 22nd, 2018.
