Coach Olson was hired in the spring of 2006 to be the 6th girls’ basketball coach in school history. Entering his 13th year as the head coach, Coach O has built the Jaguars into one of the strongest 4A girls basketball programs in the state of Colorado. The Jags have won 4 Jeffco league titles, played in 2 state championship games, and started the season 7 consecutive times ranked in the Top 10. His 218-90 overall record includes a 114-36 record in the always tough Jeffco league. That league record includes a dominating stretch of 5 years where the Jags went 59-4! He has been selected Jeffco Coach of the Year 4 times in girls’ basketball, was the Jeffco All Girls Coach of the Year once and was selected to coach in an all-star game sponsored by the Denver Nuggets called “The Show”. Getting to 230 wins will put Coach Olson in the Top 20 of wins by a girls’ basketball coach at one school in Colorado state history! But Coach O has coached more than just girls’ basketball. He has been the girls’ JV soccer coach at D’Evelyn for 18 years with a record of 183-66-24. The 2018-2019 season marks his 27th year coaching high school sports in Colorado. He has coached girls JV soccer at Golden and Bear Creek, boys JV soccer at D’Evelyn and Chatfield, girls JV volleyball at Conifer, boys JV basketball at Conifer and Chatfield, girls Varsity soccer at Conifer, girls JV basketball at Gunnison, and boys L3 basketball at Arvada West and Chatfield. He even coached ½ a season of softball at Conifer! As the boys Varsity soccer coach at Green Mountain he had a record of 38-8-2 and in 1996 led the team to the 5A Jeffco league championship, a #23 national ranking, and a berth in the state semifinals. Most important has been his time coaching his own kids, Kiernan and Kellen, in youth soccer, basketball, and T-ball! Each month coaches have the opportunity to nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. In order to be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches. Mr. Bell has been teaching and coaching in high school for 36 years at six different schools in four states. During that time, he has coached Track and Field, Cross-Country, Boys and Girls Basketball, Girls Softball, and Boys Baseball. He has coached several state champions in both cross-country and track as well as numerous all-state and all-league athletes. In addition to coaching, Mr. Bell has been the meet director for state championships in both track and cross-country, served as a summer athletic camp coordinator, developed 5 different cross-country courses that have hosted league or regional championships, and acted as the game manager for basketball for 14 years. Thanks Coach Bell for all you do for D’Evelyn Jr/ Sr High School. Congratulations to the D’Evelyn Cross Country Teams on wrapping up their amazing season. Our whole team competed at 4A League Championships with great results: eleven of our JV athletes finished their season with personal bests. Our varsity team, made up of Katy Haerbig, Taylor Haerbig, Kati Livingood, Sonja Morin, Molly Rogers, Marley Somers, Eliana Thompson and Corin Zapico, won the League Championship title for the first time in 18 years! Taylor Haerbig and Eliana Thompson were 1st team all-conference and Kati Livingood and Sonja Morin were 2nd team all-conference! D’Evelyn Girls Win 4A Leagues (article from Columbine Courier).
For our Varsity teams, the season continued as they ran on our own D’Evelyn Dash course one more time to compete at the 3A Regionals Championships. The girls captured the Regional title and earned a spot to compete at the State Championship Meet with the boys just missing state as a team but Caleb Feagans making it as an individual. On the morning of State, Caleb ran as an individual against a tough field. The girls earned a 3rd place team finish, with Eliana taking 10th place and Taylor 13th. The girls have not been 3rd as a team at State since 2000 (the same year our girls team last won the League Championships)! D’Evelyn Girls Take Third as a Team at State XC (article from Columbine Courier) . After committing to 3 more weeks of training, the Girls Varsity team and Caleb headed to compete at Nike Cross Country Southwest Regionals in Casa Grande, Arizona. The girls team won the Small Schools Division! This is an impressive accomplishment and the best team finish in our school’s history! Taylor, Katy and Molly ran their career bests. Caleb Feagans also ran in the small school’s division and finished his XC career breaking his PR by 12 seconds! We are so proud of what the team has accomplished together and look forward to next year! If you’re still left wanting to learn more about our season, please check out our season highlight video.
