By Jerry McWhorter Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Recently the Jefferson County School District Athletics’ Office had their annual Most Valuable Player (MVP) Luncheon at Mt Vernon Country Club. This is an annual event that honors the League MVP for each sport the District offers, both at the 4A and 5A Classifications. The event features the MVP’s and the Athletic Directors from each Jeffco High School. After a very nice lunch, the Athletic Directors spend some time to celebrate and honor the MVP’s. D’Evelyn High School was fortunate enough to have 5 MVP’S. I would like to introduce them to you: Freshman Grace Li-Grace is the MVP for the Jaguar Women’s Tennis Team. As a freshman, Grace is in the number 1 singles position on the team. Interestingly enough Grace has only been playing tennis for two years and boy did she take the League by storm. Grace is also an accomplished golfer. With three more years ahead of her, we expect big things from Grace Li. Junior Brandon Pennington-Brandon is the MVP for the Men’s Tennis Team. Brandon has been playing tennis since he was 7 years old and truly eats, breathes, and plays tennis all the time…except for those times when he is working on his school work! Brandon also plays in the number 1 singles position where he was selected All Conference twice. Brandon is extremely talented and we all look forward to his Senior Year next fall. Junior Jake Braun-Jake was selected as the Offensive MVP for the Flat Iron Football Conference in this his 3rd year of Varsity Football. Jake was selected All Conference on both Offense and Defense and had 6.5 sacks. Jake will be counted on as leader next year is what will be his Senior Year. He has hopes of playing College Football. Senior Brady Sullivan-Brady was selected as the Defensive MVP for the Flat Iron Football Conference. Brady is a 4-year letterman in football and was the Team Captain for the Jags Football team this past fall. He was selected All-Conference on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Brady was also on the Jags Baseball Team and was also the Student Body President this Year. Brady will be playing football at MIT next fall. Senior Laryssa Hamblen-Laryssa was selected as the Women’s Soccer MVP for 2019. As a sophomore Laryssa was part of the Jaguar Soccer Team that won a State Championship and this year the Jags advanced to the Elite 8 game. Laryssa was the Student Body Vice President this year and just recently was selected as the D’Evelyn High School Female Athlete of the Year. Laryssa will be attending Brown University next year, where she will play soccer. Congratulations to these outstanding D’Evelyn High School Student/Athletes, we are all extremely proud of them.
