Each month coaches can nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. To be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches.
The female Student Athlete for September is Corin Zapico
Corin is limitless in her commitment to our program - she came EVERY SINGLE DAY over the summer that we had our Summer Running program (almost 50 days), and always came to do her best and nothing less. She was always a dependable source of hard work and positivity on these runs, and made sure that other athletes maintained these characteristics as well.
As a result of this incredible commitment to our program and her hard work over the summer, Corin has not only been Varsity for all of the meets this season, but has also been in the top 4 finishers on our team every time we race. One of her most notable performances was at the Lake County Invite, where she led the team to a first place trophy and improved on her own time at the same meet from last year by two minutes!
Corin is also a great leader for the team - she leads by example and shows athletes how to do their best and succeed in XC.
Nominated by Coach Porter
The male Student Athlete of the Month for September is Chad Dines
Senior Chad Dines is the starting quarterback of the Jags Football team and although he attends Colorado Academy and not DHS, he is a huge part of our athletic family.
After three games Chad is leading the state in passing yardage - 1002 yds and yards per game - 334 yds per. That's tops in all classifications!
Chad is a dynamic leader and an outstanding athlete. It's rare that a student athlete doesn't attend the school he plays for and is still voted a captain by his peers. That speaks volumes about Chad's character and passion for his team.
