By: Greg Kottcamp, Assistant Principal We are excited to announce that the D’Evelyn music department will be expanding in 2023-2024. In March, Dr. Theis let the administration know that he would not be returning next school year, as he was moving to New Orleans. We are thankful for the work Dr. Theis put into our music program this year, and we wish him well on his future endeavors. After a thorough process, we have hired Matthew Morrissette to fill the Instrumental Music and Band Director position. Mr. Morrissette will be teaching all band classes and the Orchestra Level 2 class. Mr. Matthew Morrissette is entering his 7th year of teaching after graduating from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2017 with a Music Education Degree. Mr. Morrissette began his musical career in Jeffco in the Green Mountain Area where he played the saxophone (And continues to play today). He later went on to perform in the Green Mountain High School Marching Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Pit Orchestra before graduating from Green Mountain in 2011. During his time at MSU Denver, Mr. Morrissette began teaching as a Woodwind Instructor for Green Mountain High from 2012-2016 as well as serving in the same position for Fairview High School in 2016. Mr. Morrissette student-taught with Tim Libby at Cherry Creek High School. In 2017 he was offered the Band Director Position at Green Mountain High School. During his time there he increased program enrollment from 70 to over 100 total students in two years, expanded the Jazz Program to two bands of 18, and expanded the Marching Band from under 40 to 65 prior to the pandemic. Finally, Mr. Morrissette obtained his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University in October of 2022. Mr. Morrissette is thrilled to be starting the next chapter of his teaching career with the D’Evelyn students and staff this fall. In the near future Mr. Morrissette will have a meeting for Marching Band members and families. If you have questions you can email him at [email protected].

Parents, we need a few more microwaves for the students to use in the cafeteria during lunch. Last year, some parents contributed microwaves. Unfortunately, two out of the four microwaves stopped working due to wear and tear. If you have a spare working microwave sitting around your house that you are willing to donate to the school, please bring it by the front office. By: Greg Kottcamp, Assistant Principal
As we get further into the spring season and warmer weather, we would like to remind parents and students about our dress code expectations. When families choose to send their students to D'Evelyn they are expected to follow the school policies. If every family makes sure that their child/ren is/are following the dress code guidelines below, it will help us maintain our high behavior expectations. Please take the time to review the dress code with your kids. The most common violations have been students wearing hats (hoods of their hoodies), shirts exposing the midriff, and shorts that don’t fully extend to cover the mid-thigh. We need your help in making sure that the dress code expectations are met. Thank you for having those hard conversations with your kids. Juniors, get a huge head start on your college essay. Mr. Jacobson will be leading a College Essay session during 7th hour on April 18th in E100. He will help you start brainstorming what you can write about so that you can get your college essay done over the summer!

All new students are expected to take the placement test. Students that do not take the placement test, will be placed no higher than their grade level math course. The Math Placement test will be offered as follows:
If you can not attend on your assigned day, please email [email protected]. The testing will take place at D'Evelyn Jr. Sr. High School, in the cafeteria. We will have staff available at the front entrance to direct students to the cafeteria test location. No RSVP is necessary. Students should bring a couple of pencils, calculators are not allowed. Parents will be directed to the library upstairs for the parent information meeting. Parents should bring their child's Jeffco-issued Chromebook (if the child has one) and know the username and password to log into the computer, as we will be showing parents some important tools. We will also be explaining some of our school systems, communication tips, and counseling support, and end with a Q & A session. Arriving 5-10 minutes early should allow us to get started promptly at 4 pm. Results of the math placement test will be emailed in May, so please do not contact the school before then. We have opened this clinic up to ages 8-18. To attend the clinic, please sign up on the sign-up genius. You can bring cash on the day of the event. Before the event, we will send out a "What to Expect" document. The Clinic will be held at the Foothills Ridge Lap Pool.
