Thank you to all D’Evelyn students, teachers, staff, parents, families, and supporters for an awesome 2020 Dennison/D’Evelyn Wish Week this past week. I was thrilled to see the extraordinary support from our wonderful community for this important cause in so many different ways. A huge thanks is in order for the members of the D’Evelyn Student Council for their organization of such an awesome event to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For those interested in supporting this fundraiser with an online contribution, please visit our Wish Week webpage. As I mentioned several weeks ago in my Principally Speaking article, we will be offering D’Evelyn students and families several survey opportunities this semester. For the first time this year, the D’Evelyn Accountability Committee has designed a 2020 Parent School Satisfaction Survey to be completed by D’Evelyn parents. The survey will be available from now until Sunday, February 9th. We encourage all D’Evelyn parents/families to complete this survey to provide feedback on their experiences with the school this year. On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff, we look forward to the opportunity to learn from the feedback of parents in our community. Similarly, D’Evelyn students will be completing School Satisfaction Surveys in their History classes during the week of January 27th. We encourage all students to take the time afforded during those classes to provide thoughtful feedback about their experiences this year in the school. I am grateful for your ongoing support of our great school and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to formally gather feedback from both parents and students this year. Thank you for all that you do to make D’Evelyn a great school. January 2020

Please review our D'Evelyn Sports/Activities Calendar to find opportunities to support our student-athletes. We also encourage families to familiarize themselves with the D'Evelyn Calendar of Events. Across Colorado, the high school graduating Class of 2021 will be subject to new state-wide graduation standards that must be met prior to high school graduation. The D’Evelyn Class of 2021 will be our first class of students that are expected to meet these requirements, and each subsequent graduating class will also be held to the new requirements. Within the D’Evelyn program, our students have four different ways by which they can achieve the competencies in English and Math:
For more information on the D’Evelyn graduation requirements, please visit our Counseling Graduation Requirement web-page. The D’Evelyn counselors have been working to educate students about this upcoming transition in graduation requirements. The counseling team is working with students in whole group presentations and individual student meetings to offer support to ensure that all students are on-track for on-time graduation in May 2021. The D’Evelyn High School graduation requirements have not changed. However, D’Evelyn students, like all students across the state, will be required to demonstrate competency in English and Math beyond their achievements shown on their transcripts. We are confident that the D’Evelyn liberal arts program and the hard work of our students and teachers will provide our students the necessary instruction and support needed to meet these new graduation competencies. However, as a school community of teachers, counselors, and administrators, we are here to support all of our students to ensure that these competencies do not impede on-time graduation for any of our students. If you have questions or would like more information on these new requirements beginning with the Class of 2021, please contact your student’s counselor. January 2020

We are in the heart of the Jeffco 4A League Season for girls’ swim & dive, girls’ basketball, and boy’s basketball. Please review our D'Evelyn Sports/Activities Calendar to find opportunities to support our student-athletes. We also encourage families to familiarize themselves with the D'Evelyn Calendar of Events. Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope that you and your family enjoyed a restful, relaxing, and restorative Winter Break and a very happy holiday season. I am excited to be back with the students, faculty, and staff, embarking on the start of a successful 2nd semester to the 2019-2020 school year. I have a few important updates/reminders for families relevant to the beginning of the new calendar year. Enrollment for 2020-2021 school year - the deadline for the 1st Round Choice Enrollment process for all Jeffco Schools is January 15, 2020. You may access the district enrollment platform via enrolljeffco.org. The January 15th deadline is an important date for prospective families interested in D’Evelyn for their student(s) in 2020-2021, but also an important deadline for families considering any Jeffco school next year. Generally, the 1st round choice enrollment placement process is the most likely time that a student will be admitted to any school in the district. We encourage all families to be thoughtful in their school choice decisions for the 2020-2021 school year. Surveys - each year, the D’Evelyn Accountability Committee administers surveys to students, and every other year, D’Evelyn administers the district Make Your Voice Heard Survey. During the upcoming weeks, we will be asking D’Evelyn students and families to complete surveys about their experiences in our school. This year, the Accountability Committee has developed a parent survey as well. Here is an overview of upcoming surveys for students and families:
Wish Week & School Visit by NASA Astronaut Matthew Dominick (D’Evelyn Class of 2000) - During the week of January 21st, the D’Evelyn Student Council has organized an awesome Wish Week to coincide with our annual Winter Spirit Week. Wish Week is a fundraising program designed to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Last year, the D’Evelyn community contributed to raising over $10,000 to support a young girl’s dream to go to Disney World. This year, the Student Council has organized an array of events and fundraisers to support our efforts to meet the dreams of even more children afflicted with life-threatening illnesses. We appreciate the support of our students and families in this fundraising effort. Additionally, in conjunction with Wish Week and Spirit Week, we are thrilled to welcome D’Evelyn graduate and NASA Astronaut, Matthew Dominick back to D’Evelyn on Friday, January 24th. Mr. Dominick will attend the January 24th Pep Rally to present to our students, and in order to meet with a broader array of the D’Evelyn community, will host a community event in the evening. Please join us on Friday, January 24th, at 6 pm in the D’Evelyn Auditorium to hear more about Mr. Dominick’s experiences with NASA. There will also be a meet-and-greet opportunity at the conclusion of this event. We are so proud of Matthew and all of his accomplishments. It will be a great opportunity for our community to give him a warm welcome back to his junior and senior high school. Best wishes to you and your family on a great start to the second semester.
