Thank you to the students and families that attended Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, February 23rd. It was great to see so many attendees here to work with teachers to support student success this semester. As you have likely heard, we have had two significant schedule changes that will impact student school days this semester. As a result of recent changes to the Jeffco Schools schedule, there will be no school for students on Monday, March 28th and Friday, April 22nd. These will be teacher work days. Thank you for your support and understanding with this recent change in the Jeffco Schools calendar. Additionally, we have made changes to our schedule for the end of this semester at D’Evelyn. We will shift our Final Exam schedule from two days to three days. As a result of these changes, the final exam schedule for students will be as follows: Monday, May 23rd - Periods 1 & 2 Final Exams Tuesday, May 24th - Periods 3 & 4 Final Exams Wednesday, May 25th - Period 5 & 6 Final Exams Wednesday, May 25th will remain the last day of school for students. Additionally, we will follow a unique bell schedule for these final exam days. Please review the 2nd Semester Final Exam schedule, which includes a later official start time for final exam days than a typical D’Evelyn school day. We believe that these changes to the final exam schedule will create a better opportunity for our students to thrive on their end-of-year assessments. Thank you for your continued support of your child(ren) and our great school. I appreciate the important role that you play in ensuring the success of our school. We wish our students the best of luck as they continue with academics, athletics, and performances in the upcoming weeks. With a variety of opportunities to support our student-athletes and performers, I am excited to see strong community support for our kids as they wrap up the winter season. These conferences will be in-person and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. This is an important opportunity for students and families to connect with teachers to receive feedback. Please note that given the format of this event, individual conferences must be limited to up to five minutes in length. If further conversations are needed, teachers and families can schedule a follow-up meeting after conferences. District Start Time Decisions As you have seen in recent communication from Jeffco Schools, the district is considering a change to start and end times for the 2022-2023 school year. As you review those resources, please know that the plan for D’Evelyn would be to align with the proposed district-wide high school schedule. This means that school would start at 8:15 am and end at 3:30 pm. Because of our robust high school athletics and activities, it makes the most sense that D’Evelyn would align with the other Jeffco high schools. As a leadership team, we are in the process of forming a faculty committee to review and update our bell schedule for implementation should the transition of start/end times occur for the 2022-2023 school year. Student Non-Contact Days As outlined in the Jeffco Schools communication on the evening of Wednesday, February 16th, two school days this semester have been converted from school days to non-student contact days. Specifically, there will be no school for students on March 28th or April 22nd. While students do not have school on these two dates, teachers will have work days. Thank you for your ongoing support of your child(ren) and our school. I hope that we can all enjoy the many upcoming athletic and extracurricular events in support of our hard-working students. On Thursday, February 10th, Jefferson County Public Health voted to end the mask mandate in schools effective Friday, February 11th at 11:59 PM. Beginning on Saturday, February 12th, masks will no longer be required in schools or during indoor school events. After nearly two years of the pandemic, this is a significant change in expectations for students, staff, and community members. As a school community, we will respect the choices of all individuals at D’Evelyn, whether individuals choose to continue or stop wearing masks. It is important for all community members to respect the individual choices of others in our community as we work to continue to proceed through this pandemic. Further, with the removal of the mask mandate, it is important for students and staff to stay home from school if they are exhibiting Covid-symptoms, or if they have tested positive for Covid. Our objectives remain clear - we intend to support the health and safety of all community members to the greatest extent possible, and to ensure minimal disruption to in-person learning opportunities for all of our students. D’Evelyn Accountability Committee Parent Survey Deadline is February 15, 2022 Thank you to the parents/families that have already completed the Accountability Committee Parent Survey. Please note the deadline for completion of this important survey is Tuesday, February 15th. Parents/guardians can access the survey link here, and are encouraged to fill out the survey individually for each of their child(ren) that attend D’Evelyn. Link to Parent Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2DSQNY5 Parent-Teacher Conferences We look forward to welcoming parents and students to our 2nd semester Parent-Teacher Conference event on February 23rd from 3-6 pm. We encourage students to join their parents in this event to learn more about feedback and growth opportunities directly from teachers in this setting. This is an important event to support thriving parent-student-teacher partnerships, and we hope to see a great turnout at this event. Thank you for your continued support of your child(ren) and D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School. By: Josh Griffin, Principal
I hope that you and your family enjoyed this past week and weekend. It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of the first six weeks of this semester. I am grateful to our students, faculty, staff, and families for their hard work and dedication to make this a successful start to the school year. Additionally, I want to thank the D’Evelyn Student Council for their efforts to organize an outstanding 2022 Wish Week in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For families and community members still interested in contributing to this important cause, you can do so here. On Thursday evening, Jeffco Public Health made the determination that the indoor mask mandate in Jefferson County, which applies to schools, would be lifted on Friday, February 18th. I can imagine that this announcement was met with mixed reviews within our community, and I respect the individual views of our community members. However, with this decision, the “mask mandate” does remain in place for students and staff in our school until February 18th. With only 9 days of school between the publication of this article and the end of the mask mandate, I expect that we can all honor the mandate within our school until it ends. We expect our students and staff to comply with rules and consistently maintain an orderly environment at D’Evelyn, and I do not view the mask rules any differently from other policies/procedures in our school. Thank you for encouraging your student to comply with the mask expectations for the remaining days of the mandate. Additionally, as outlined in the School Messenger distributed on Wednesday, February 2nd to all families, the D’Evelyn Accountability Committee is in the midst of administering the 2022 D’Evelyn School Satisfaction surveys. We are hopeful that all parents/guardians will complete this survey to provide us valuable feedback as we prepare for the 2022-2023 school year and beyond. Below, please find a link to the Parent School Satisfaction Survey. We ask that parents/guardians complete this survey on behalf of each of their children currently attending D’Evelyn. As a result, multiple submissions are allowed. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Parent School Satisfaction Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2DSQNY5 The deadline for completing this survey is February 15, 2022. Thank you for your continued support of your child(ren) and our school. I appreciate your commitment to our school.
