We have had a busy two weeks since the conclusion of Thanksgiving Break. I am grateful to our students for their hard work and dedication during this busy time, and to our teachers for their efforts to teach all of our students the rich D’Evelyn liberal arts curriculum this semester. It is my hope that all D’Evelyn students have great success on their remaining assignments and exams this semester.
Our 1st Semester Final Exam schedule is below. Last year, we made the decision to spread final exams over three school days rather than two school days. We made this decision collaboratively with D’Evelyn teachers and parents and have received positive feedback from students about this change. Unfortunately, we were unable to follow this schedule for the 2nd semester of the 2018-2019 school year due to the volume of school cancellations during that semester. I am happy that we will follow it next week to conclude this semester. The purpose of the schedule change for final exams was to help students spread the load of preparation and study required for our final exams. Additionally, we have structured in a Study Hall for students between the finals so that they have a break and an opportunity to regroup between their two exams. It is the sincere hope of the D’Evelyn Administration that this adjustment in schedules will support our students’ continued success on Final Exams. Final exams should measure the learning of students over the course of the semester. While I hope that the exams will reflect solid learning that has already occurred this school year, I know that our students will study hard and prepare diligently for success on these exams. While the preparation may be challenging and at times daunting, I am confident that these efforts of our students will support their future success as people, students, and employees in their post-secondary lives. Best of luck to all D’Evelyn students on a successful conclusion to the semester and their final exams. I hope that the upcoming Winter Break is an excellent opportunity for rest and relaxation for our students, teachers, and families. Thank you for your continued support of our great school! School choice is an important responsibility of all families and students within the public education system. We are fortunate in Jeffco Schools to have an array of educational options for families in both elementary and secondary school levels. D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School is a unique academic program, serving students in grades 6 - 12 beginning in the fall of 2020. D’Evelyn offers all of its students a rigorous liberal arts program with high expectations for all students. Now in our 26th year, we have a rich history of great personal, academic, and extracurricular success of students and graduates. However, there are philosophical underpinnings and practical programs that D’Evelyn simply does not offer. As such, within the framework of the diverse school options available in Jeffco, it is important that D’Evelyn families and students are well aligned with the established D’Evelyn liberal arts philosophy. The Jeffco Schools 1st Round Choice Enrollment Window begins December 10th. Jeffco Schools will email all current families in the district on December 10th with their Jeffco Connect username, and with the information on how to reset passwords. It is important for all families with prospective students interested in enrolling at D’Evelyn for 2020-2021 to register for the lottery via the EnrollJeffco system by January 15th. Additionally, through the EnrollJeffco system, we will ask all current D’Evelyn families to declare their plans for 2020-2021 enrollment by January 15th. It is also important that D’Evelyn families that are considering other educational options for their students in 2020-2021 to apply to those schools during the 1st Round Choice Enrollment window, which runs from December 10, 2019 - January 15, 2020. The EnrollJeffco School Finder is available for all families to review and consider educational options throughout the county at the elementary and secondary level. For families interested in learning more about D’Evelyn, we ask that you attend one of our upcoming Prospective Student Information Nights on the following dates (all remaining Information Nights begin at 7 pm in the D’Evelyn Auditorium):
Additionally, I will offer a High School Information Night, targeted towards current 8th grade students interested in continuing their high school education at D’Evelyn. This presentation is designed to specifically address key elements of the high school program - academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Our efforts to market and provide information regarding the D’Evelyn program are designed to help students and families understand who we are and what we do. As a result, in addition to the information provided, there are opportunities for attendees to ask questions and gain more information that may facilitate their respective school choice decisions. Further, I encourage both prospective and current D’Evelyn families to schedule meetings with D’Evelyn counselors or administrators if they would like to ask more personal, specific questions about our program prior to making final school choice decisions. It is my sincere hope that current D’Evelyn students plan to continue attending D’Evelyn in 2020-2021, with the exception of our outstanding Class of 2020. Within the EnrollJeffco system, we will also ask families who intend to stay at D’Evelyn to declare their intentions to do so during the month of January. Further instructions on that process will be delivered via School Messenger in the upcoming weeks. I am grateful that you have entrusted the education of your child to D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School. I hope that the EnrollJeffco 1st Round Choice Enrollment Window will provide all current and prospective families the opportunities needed to make important school choice decisions for the fall of 2020. |
