Written by Josh Griffin, Principal I hope that this Jaguar Tracks edition finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy. We have now concluded our fourth week of remote learning, and I hope that our students have found success in adjusting to our new norm of learning successfully. I have a few important updates to share as we continue to adjust our systems and procedures to account for remote learning and the Covid-19 pandemic. Graduation for the D’Evelyn Class of 2020 - I am excited to share that we have scheduled to host graduation for the D’Evelyn Class of 2020 at Jeffco Stadium on Thursday evening, August 6, 2020 at 7 pm. Based on the feedback we received last week, we felt that this graduation date earlier in August would best support the largest number of D’Evelyn seniors and families, given the timeline many students face for moving onto college, career, and military service. I also acknowledge with heartfelt disappointment that not all members of the D’Evelyn Class of 2020 will be able to participate in Graduation on August 6th. Please know that this is the most upsetting component of the shift in the Graduation ceremony. I extend my sincere regrets that we find ourselves in this position, and appreciate the understanding and support I have received acknowledging that we are doing the best we can in a difficult situation. Additionally, we are working through an array of logistics on this transition in Graduation, including distribution of caps & gowns, delivery of diplomas, and the cost and logistics associated with the Graduation. We will share updates with families as we are able - thank you for your patience as we adjust to this new plan. 6th Grade - We remain enthusiastic about starting our new 6th grade program in the 2020-2021 school year. I am confident that our planning and preparation has gone very well, even with the limitations placed upon us by remote learning and stay-at-home protocols. I am grateful to the teachers, staff, Steering Committee members, and D’Evelyn students and parents that have contributed to our efforts to plan for the start of 6th grade in the 2020-2021 school year. Here are a few updates on where we stand in the 6th grade program development and implementation:
Surveys - Thank you to the D’Evelyn students & families that completed the remote learning survey. Mr. Wille has shared an article in this edition of the Jaguar Tracks with updates/findings from those surveys, and we will be working with faculty, staff, and administration to process the survey data in order to allow it to inform our continued practice, ensuring our students are learning and finding appropriate support as needed. Communication - Thank you to Mr. Kottcamp for putting together his article regarding communication for this week’s Jaguar Tracks. One area of feedback we received from students is that they’d like to hear more from us (D’Evelyn faculty, staff, and in particular, administration). The administration is developing plans to provide more direct communication with students. However, I would add a request that as you find information shared by School Messenger, Jaguar Tracks, or any other method, that you feel would benefit or help your student(s), please do share. I know we are communicating frequently by varied methods, but I welcome students to read and review any of the updates we share with the broader community. Thank you for your continued support during the period of remote learning. I hope that you and your family continue to be well. Comments are closed.
