On the evening of Thursday, March 12th, Jeffco Schools announced the closure of schools effective Monday, March 16th - Friday, March 20th. This closure leads up to our scheduled Spring Break, Monday, March 23rd - Friday, March 27th. From Tuesday, March 17th - Friday, March 20th, our teachers will engage in online teaching and learning. We are hopeful that this mechanism will ensure that students can continue to engage in their learning during the period of cancellation. However, we also acknowledge that online teaching and learning will not be the same as what can be accomplished in the classroom between teacher and students. Fortunately, we have had a few days to prepare for the possibility of school closure, and our teachers have worked to set up Google Classrooms where students can access important instructional resources during the school cancellation. In school on Friday, March 13th, teachers worked with students to ensure they understand the plan for online learning. The school building will be open on Monday, March 16th for students and families to stop in to pick-up materials that they may need during the period of school cancellation. We hope that these visits will be brief and timely. During the period of school closure, there will be no events, games, competitions, meetings, or outside building rentals. The school and building will be closed for any educational or non-educational function that was scheduled. Additionally, CHSAA has suspended all school-based athletic and activity practices and competitions through April 6th. Please note that D’Evelyn faculty and staff will be reachable on all scheduled school days during the cancellation. Teachers may have set up specific instructions for students to contact them in class this week, but we will be reachable by email and voicemail during this cancellation. We know that the outbreak of Covid-19 has had a notable impact on our community. I appreciate the strength and support of all members of the D’Evelyn community during this difficult time. It is my sincere hope that we are all able to stay healthy, and that our decision to cancel school for at least two weeks helps keep all members of our broader community healthy. Thank you for your support and flexibility as we transition to online learning. This is a new frontier in many ways for D’Evelyn, and I am so grateful for the understanding and engagement of our students, teachers, staff, parents, and families as we proceed down this new path.
