Written by: Jenna Spendlove, D’Evelyn Education Foundation Manager The D’Evelyn Education Foundation is proud to continue our Appreciation and Gratitude campaign. We hope you took time these past two weeks to participate in the previous challenges: NOTICE THE GOOD. If not, it’s not too late! Think in threes: Start and end each day by identifying three things you’re grateful for and try not to repeat things. Share your appreciative thoughts with friends, family, and teachers. Focus on your verbiage: try to use positive, humble, and thankful language. AND GO BEYOND YOURSELF. Improve how you dish out thanks toward your loved ones and community, still keeping in mind the gratitude guidelines from week one. Upgrade “thanks”: Express appreciation to someone everyday this week, being super specific. Pen a letter: Write a heartfelt note to a mentor, family member, or friend detailing how he or she has impacted your life in a positive way. Be of service: Most people end up feeling extra grateful for their own blessings when they give back in some way. Find a volunteering opportunity that interests you and schedule time to participate.
We received more encouraging quotes of gratitude from members of our D’Evelyn Community. Check them out! “It is my honor to serve as the D’Evelyn principal. D’Evelyn is an extraordinary school that presents our students an opportunity to transform their lives. The liberal arts academic program prepares students for full, happy, and successful lives. The D’Evelyn Education Foundation is an amazing support to our students and school program, providing thousands of dollars each year to support student learning, athletics, extracurricular activities, and scholarships. DEF enhances the student, faculty/staff, and family experience in so many ways as a result of the contributions of our dedicated volunteers and supporters.” – Josh Griffin, Principal of D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High School “There are so many aspects of D’Evelyn for which I am thankful. Our daughters have developed life skills of leadership and teamwork through involvement in Student Council, Sources of Strength, and marching band. They have grown through opportunities to serve others in girls mentoring, peer tutoring, and planning/fundraising for Wish Week. D’Evelyn’s commitment to academic excellence has taught them a work ethic which will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Of course, I am also grateful for the administration, faculty, and staff who are constantly available and supportive. “ - Laura McCollough, D’Evelyn Education Foundation Secretary & Parent of D’Evelyn students “We continue to be incredibly grateful for our experience at D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High School. We have had the pleasure and privilege of watching our son be challenged yet nurtured all the while growing into an outstanding student. We credit so much of this to his phenomenal teachers and the leadership provided by Administration. In addition, we have thoroughly enjoyed the friendships we have made with fellow families and especially their students.” – Scott & Jenna Spendlove, Parents of a D’Evelyn Student Please submit your quote of why you are thankful to [email protected] today!
