Written by: Jenna Spendlove, D’Evelyn Education Foundation Executive Director The D’Evelyn Education Foundation is proud to conclude our Appreciation and Gratitude campaign. We hope you took time these past three weeks to participate in the previous challenges: NOTICE THE GOOD. If not, it’s not too late! Think in threes: Start and end each day by identifying three things you’re grateful for and try not to repeat things. Share your appreciative thoughts with friends, family, and teachers. Focus on your verbiage: try to use positive, humble, and thankful language. AND GO BEYOND YOURSELF. Improve how you dish out thanks toward your loved ones and community, still keeping in mind the gratitude guidelines from week one. Upgrade “thanks”: Express appreciation to someone everyday this week, being super specific. Pen a letter: Write a heartfelt note to a mentor, family member, or friend detailing how he or she has impacted your life in a positive way. Be of service: Most people end up feeling extra grateful for their own blessings when they give back in some way. Find a volunteering opportunity that interests you and schedule time to participate. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. Now it’s all about seeing good fortune everywhere. Look for unexpected heroes: Don’t journal just about people who’ve helped you, but also about those who’ve been there for your loved ones. When you list your three good things this week, call out these indirect joy bringers. Find silver linings: Write down three less-than-perfect experiences and consider how they actually benefited you. Take it to the office/school: The workplace is one of the places gratitude is lacking the most. Show a boss, peer, or intern some appreciation this week. Don’t be surprised if the good vibes come back to you. Gratitude often has a boomerang effect.
We received more encouraging quotes of gratitude from members of our D’Evelyn Community. Check them out! “I've always known D'Evelyn is a great school with great people but this pandemic has made me appreciate the administration, staff and teachers even more. I know these are hard times for everyone but we are fortunate to be part of a community that truly cares and wants to do the best for each other and the students while continuing to find ways to provide a rigorous and demanding liberal arts education. Thank you so much to the administration who has had to deal with constant change since last March and yet continues to stay positive and focused on what is best for our students. Thank you to the counselors who are in high demand as our students work their way through these strange times and thank you to the teachers who have had to be flexible and think outside the box to find the best remote ways to engage and teach our students the rigorous curriculum that makes D'Evelyn so great. I wish everyone good health and a relaxing Thanksgiving break!” - Dana Miller, Steering Committee Chair and D’Evelyn Parent Comments are closed.
