The first semester of the school year has been a great success. The end of the semester perennially brings a busy and chaotic time in our students’ lives - there are many papers, assignments, and exams for students to complete prior to the end of the year, all within one of our peak seasons for performances and sporting contests. However, this time of year also presents a rich opportunity to reflect upon the many great achievements of D’Evelyn students over the course of the semester. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration, please accept our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful accomplishments of our D’Evelyn students in this semester. We also wish the best to all our students as they embark on the final round of assignments and assessments of 2017! I hope that each of you enjoy a wonderful Winter Break and a very happy holiday season. The Winter Break is a great opportunity for students, families, teachers, and staff to rest and relax, enjoying time with family and friends. I am hopeful that this break will provide all D’Evelyn community members the appropriate time needed to recharge for a great second semester. Thank you for all that you do to make D’Evelyn a great school and community. Finally, I would like to update the D’Evelyn community on a wonderful event occurring at school on December 18th. Dennison Elementary School will be hosting a celebration of their recognition as a 2017 Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. This is a prestigious national award, bestowed in 2017 upon only 342 schools in the nation. The recognition reflects many years of excellence at Dennison Elementary School, and the great work of many students, families, teachers, and support staff. We are hopeful that D’Evelyn community members with ties (past or present) to Dennison will be able to attend the celebration. It will be in the D’Evelyn Main Gymnasium from 4:00 - 6:30 PM on Monday, December 18th. Happy holidays to you and your family. I hope that you enjoy a wonderful Winter Break! The month of December is always an exciting time of the school year at D’Evelyn. In the next few weeks, there are several holiday-themed musical performances from our junior and senior high students. On Wednesday, December 6, the junior high choir and band will join forces for their annual winter concert. The following week, the senior high choir, concert band, and orchestra will come together to perform on both Tuesday, December 12th and Wednesday, December 13th. Each of these concerts begins at 7 PM in the D’Evelyn Auditorium. Good luck to all the great D’Evelyn musicians as they perform in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing many fellow students, families, and friends in attendance for these great concerts. Additionally, the competitive season for winter sports has arrived. D’Evelyn teams compete in boys basketball, girls basketball, and girls swimming and diving. Competitions have already begun, as the D’Evelyn boys basketball program is hosting the annual Golden/D’Evelyn Preview Classic, and the girls basketball team is competing in the Mountain Vista/Rock Canyon Tournament. The swimming & diving team will compete at Meyers Pool in Arvada on Saturday afternoon. Please join me by supporting the D’Evelyn winter sports teams in the next few months - there are many competitions to attend. For more information on athletic team schedules, please visit the D’Evelyn webpage for the Sports Calendar. Good luck to all of our student-athletes as they embark on their seasons. Finally, I would like to formally recognize our fall sports programs for an amazing season that has now concluded. Hundreds of D’Evelyn student-athletes compete in the fall with eight sports teams, plus the Marching Band and Cheerleading team.
We are very proud of the achievements of the D’Evelyn student-athletes, musicians, and performers. Extracurricular activities play an important role in the development of children, and we are fortunate at D’Evelyn to have a knowledgeable, committed group of coaches and sponsors working with our students outside of the school day. |
