On behalf of the D’Evelyn faculty, staff, and administration, please accept my best wishes on a wonderful Spring Break for you and your family. I often say that Spring Break arrives at the perfect time every year, and this year is no exception.
As we embark on this annual week-long break, I am grateful for the efforts of D’Evelyn students, faculty, and staff during this school year to date. I know that our students work long and hard to achieve great academic success and personal growth, and I am hopeful that this break will be restful and restorative for them. Our faculty and staff have dedicated many hours to the education of D’Evelyn students, and I am sure will enjoy their own well-deserved break. Finally, I am appreciative of the support and guidance provided by the parents and families of D’Evelyn students. Thank you for your ongoing support of your students as they progress through their D’Evelyn journey.
Upon return from Spring Break, D’Evelyn students will return to the vibrant and busy times of the final eight weeks of the school year (six-and-a-half for seniors). I look forward to the excitement and joy associated with our end-of-year events - spring sports competition, awards nights, end-of-year concerts, performances, AP exams, the SAT, the conclusion of the academic semester, and most importantly, all the wonderful events associated with the graduation of the Class of 2018. It is going to be a busy, at times frantic, final few months of the school year, but I hope it will be marked by the joy and happiness commensurate with the great accomplishments of D’Evelyn student population.
Thank you for your continued support of your students. I am grateful. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Spring Break!
D’Evelyn students will begin a period of standardized testing almost immediately upon returning from Spring Break. As in previous years, there have been changes made to the standardized testing program by the Colorado Department of Education, and those changes will impact D’Evelyn students and our testing calendar.
An overview of testing by grade level for the 2017-2018 school year:
Since the introduction of the Common Core curriculum several years ago, the D’Evelyn curriculum, as outlined by the Founding Document, has been steady and has not changed because of shifts in national, state, or local curricular guidelines. As a school community, we believe that the value of the liberal arts education offered at D’Evelyn, and specifically outlined in the D’Evelyn Founding Document, has a multitude of benefits, primary among them that D’Evelyn graduates will be knowledgeable, thoughtful, and engaged community members leading happy and fulfilled lives after high school. As a result, we do not, and will not, adjust our curricular expectations to coordinate with curricular directives from outside of the school.
Nonetheless, we believe that D’Evelyn students will find success on the various standardized tests that are presented to them over their six-year tenure in the school, especially when students submit their best effort on those tests. Additionally, the CMAS, PSAT, and SAT performances by D’Evelyn students will ultimately contribute to school wide measurement of performance through the Colorado School Performance Framework. As a result, it is the sincere hope of the D’Evelyn faculty, staff, and administration that students will engage in their upcoming testing with the wholehearted effort that we have come to know and respect of our student community. We appreciate the support of parents in encouraging their student(s) to perform their best on these tests.
The D’Evelyn Testing Schedule - Spring 2018
Please note that the D’Evelyn administration, faculty, and staff have gone to great lengths to ensure that the forthcoming testing schedule minimally impacts the instructional time for all students. During the assigned testing times, students will not be missing instruction of new material.
If you have questions or wish to learn more about the standardized testing at D’Evelyn, please contact Greg Kottcamp at Greg.Kottcamp@jeffco.k12.co.us or 303-982-4979.
Thank you for your continued support of your students and D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School.
(*) The April 10th testing day for grades 7 - 11 will follow a modified schedule. We will provide further details on the schedule in the coming days. 12th grade students do not have school on April 10th.
On Thursday, March 15th, I will be hosting a 'Coffee with the Principal' in the D’Evelyn Library Commons beginning at 7:45 am. The purpose of the event is to give D’Evelyn families a formal opportunity to meet with me in a small group setting. My agenda will include a brief personal introduction, an overview of the many great things occurring at D’Evelyn, a review of our school goals, and an opportunity for parents to ask questions related to school matters.
I look forward to this opportunity meet and greet parents in our school. If you are interested in attending, please check in at the Main Office before 7:45 am. We will provide coffee, tea, and hot water, as well as some light breakfast snacks. I hope that this will be a great chance for you to learn more about the school and gather information relevant to your interests in the school.
