The party is full of fun activities like swimming, bounce houses, climbing wall, games, food and much more.   Since After Prom is a parent planned event, your help is needed!  We are gathering interest for parents interested in helping with pre-planning activities and creating decor.

A virtual informational meeting will be held on Wednesday October 11th from 7:30-8:00pm.  Come find out more about this event and how to get involved with the planning of a super fun night!

Dear families,

Our school has been selected to participate in the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS) on Wednesday, October 25 . HKCS is Colorado’s widely-administered survey on the health and well-being of young people and school health policies and practices that support youth health. The survey is administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH).

Please be aware this survey contains questions regarding gender identity and sexual identity preferences. The high school survey also contains questions about sexual health. You can see the survey question using the link below.

Families can opt-out of the survey using THIS FORM. (You must complete the Opt-Out form by Tuesday, October 24th- this is one day prior to the survey date listed above.)  Participation is voluntary and students can decline to participate or answer questions in the survey. Explore Survey FAQs here.

Information about the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey:
HKCS is an optional-participation survey given to 6-12 graders in Colorado
HKCS is Colorado's most comprehensive survey on the health and well-being of young people.
The survey is voluntary, anonymous, and happens every two years in the fall.
The HKCS has a rigorous policy to protect confidentiality and anonymity of student data
Students take the online survey during one class period
Families can preview the survey questions here.

Please contact Jeffco Healthy Schools with any questions regarding your school’s participation in the survey.

Sincerely,
Josh Shapiro

A HUGE THANK YOU! And Winner of the Chili Cook Off

THANK YOU to the families who helped to provide wonderful meals for our teachers and staff on both nights of conferences. There was a large number of families who helped make the dinners a huge success and the teachers were so appreciative.

We had 8 families participate in the Chili Cook Off for the teachers on Wednesday night. The WINNER was the delicious TEXAS CHILI made by BRENNA KUBASKA.

College Athletic Recruiting
By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, D’Evelyn Athletic Director and Assistant Principal
D’Evelyn Community,

We have an exciting opportunity for all D’Evelyn students in grades 6th through 12th and their families. If you have the desire to play athletics in college, we have a must attend event coming to D’Evelyn. On Wednesday, October 11th, our very own Boys Head Basketball Coach Matt Rogers will share his extensive knowledge on the college recruiting process with the D’Evelyn Community. Coach Rogers brings over 20 years of experience as a college coach and scout in the college recruiting process. He has also recently written a book about the college recruiting process called Significant Recruiting. Come to the D’Evelyn Auditorium at 7:00 pm on 10/11 to be coached on how to make the most of your college recruiting experience. It’s never too early to start thinking about this process, so that’s why we are encouraging Junior High student-athletes and families to attend too. Please see the flier below for more information.

We look forward to seeing you in the D’Evelyn Auditorium on Wednesday, October 11th at 7:00 pm. Please reach out to Mr. McCaslin-Hahn if you have any questions. Go Jags!

Sincerely,

Eric McCaslin-Hahn
D’Evelyn Athletic Director and Assistant Principal

Next D'Evelyn Accountability Meeting - This Tuesday!
By: Magdalena Arbat-Pennington, Co-Chair - D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School Accountability Committee

I hope you are having a great week! I've attached the Agenda (draft), Accountability Flyer and parent Group Discussion Topics for our next meeting on Tuesday October 10, 2023, which will be held in the D'Evelyn library from 5:30-7:30pm. Also the current Accountability flyer which I'm very much enjoying creating every month.
Our guest speaker will be Amber Bauer, Dean of Students. She will give a powerpoint presentation, introduce herself and explain her current role as well as address current topics (tardies and dress code) with data and teacher feedback. There will be time for Q&A after her presentation.
If you will attend in person, it's almost Halloween; expect candy!

Parent group discussion time includes:
  • Does your student understand new expectations and discipline at D’Evelyn?
  • What are some challenges your student is facing this year?
  • What are some challenges you face at home with regards to school?
  • Do you have any ideas on how to improve balance of schoolwork, fun and socialization at school or in classrooms?
  • Do you have ideas for creating leadership opportunities at D’Evelyn?
  • What speakers and topics would you be interested in having at D’Evelyn Accountability Meetings?

If you will attend virtually, the final Agenda will be emailed over the weekend and it will include the dial in code. If you are attending virtually, please email your contact email and phone number to this email, so we can keep track of who was present. The best way to get us answers to parent group discussion topics is to email them as well. Answers and ideas will be read at the next meeting as well as forwarded to help with the School Improvement Plan. We will do our best to check feedback during the meeting, but please feel free to email as well.

Thank you so much and we hope to see you Tuesday!

Party Planning
By: Kara Pharris & Cindy Perlman, DEF Co-Managers

Party Planning!
We are looking for volunteers to help plan our annual Dinner Auction. The Dinner Auction is the school's largest fundraiser and issuccessful each year because of the incredible volunteers who put it together. We are hoping to make this year's auction all new! We need new ideas, new creativity and lots of hands! Have a vision for the venue, theme, and entertainment? Join us in planning! Collect donations, design invitations, make auction items pretty, create an on-screen presentation, or donate your talent or business services! We've moved the event to the spring - likely the last Friday of Feb.or first Friday of March to allow time for planning. This event alone provides much of the money needed to fill the gaps for your student's athletic, performing arts, and academic needs—we need your help to make it happen. Contact Kara or Cindy at [email protected] or sign up to help:

Rockin' Homecoming Rally!
D'Evelyn's Homecoming Pep Rally was featured on the Jefferson County Sheriff's Facebook page thanks to JCSO SRO Deputy Everhart that joined in the celebration playing the drums in a pep rally this morning. The principal is on guitar, a student on bass, and the music teacher on vocals. The impromptu band plays a modified version of the Guns and Roses song “Welcome to the Jungle” in support of the school's theme.  Great job Jags!

Athlete of the Month - September
By:  Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director

Congratulations to the Athlete of the Month winners for the month of September. The winners were chosen by their coaches based on their leadership qualities, work ethic, and other traits that represent what D’Evelyn wants to see in all of their Student-Athletes. They were chosen out of all the Student-Athletes at D’Evelyn.

Dreyton Rossetter - 10th Grade
“Dreyton worked hard all summer to become one of our best runners.  He has improved his times over last year by two to three minutes on every course.  Dreyton does all of the little things that are essential to be at your best every meet.  He is diligent about warming up, cooling down, and getting in the appropriate milage every week.  In addition, Dreyton is a 4.0 student and works just as hard in the classroom as he does at the workouts. Congratulations Dreyton.”

-Erik Bell, Head Boys Cross Country Coach

Tess Miller - 11th Grade
“Tess Miller is a junior softball player on the lady Jags team. Tess is the team's number #1 pitcher and has been a key factor in the team's success this year.  The Lady Jags have a 16-4 record and she has 14 of those wins pitching. In 100 innings pitched she has 84 strike outs and only 9 walks. She is also one of our strong hitters with a .467 average, 2 doubles and 2 home runs. Tess is not only a force on the mound but a valuable leader showing team dedication and commitment to her teammates and the D'Evelyn softball program. Thank you, Tess, and Congratulations. Well deserved.”
-Dan Porreco, Head Softball Coach

Scholars of the Month - August
By:  Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director

Congratulations to the Scholar of the Month winners for the month of September. They were chosen by the Teachers in the Social Studies Department.

Silas Helton - 8th grade
Silas brings a sense of warm enthusiasm for learning US History with a smile on his face each day. He participates constantly and is engaged with the learning process in a way that encourages Mr. Beams as a teacher to give it his best.  He is consistently strong with his work and really engages with the concepts.  He also has a resilient and dedicated spirit - completing his work whether he is absent or not, without asking.  He is a real blessing to have this year!
-Mr. Beams, Social Studies Teacher

Francesca Kerr - 7th grade
Francesca has started this school year with great enthusiasm and effort! She comes to World Geography ready to learn every day and is always fully engaged with  both the content and her fellow students. This commitment has paid off with strong grades on her assignments and tests. Thanks for modeling how to be successful at D'Evelyn, Francesca!
-Mr. Gause, Social Studies Teacher
Rowan Moden, 10th grade
Rowan is an absolute gem in Western Civ. Rowan is inquisitive, perceptive, and a natural sponge when it comes to historical information. If Ms. Paske poses a question to the class, Rowan always has their hand up with an answer, opinion, or witty remark. Rowan is thorough with work, and is always focused. Ms. Paske greatly appreciates having Rowan in class; the class wouldn't be the same without Rowan!
-Ms. Paske, Social Studies Teacher
Jack Beckman - 11th grade
Jack exudes a quiet confidence that stems from his sharp intellect and active engagement with material covered in APUSH. Jack takes a leading role in class discussions and always looks for complexity and nuance when analyzing historical concepts. Jack exhibits great skill as a writer and critical thinker, pushing himself and his peers to delve beneath the surface of historical developments in search of hard truths about patterns of human behavior. His hard work and dedication to excellence inspire Mr. Carson to always come to class at the top of his game!
-Mr. Carson, Social Studies Teacher
