By: Dr. Rob Bishop, Principal
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year It is with great excitement and pleasure to Introduce myself as your Principal at D’Evelyn for the 2022-2023 School Year. I am Dr. Robert Bishop and in my first communication to the Jaguar community I want to say that I am truly honored to be in this position and look forward to leading us through what I expect to be a wonderful school year. In the event you missed my full Bio that was published in the spring Jaguar Tracks, I have linked it here (Dr. B's Bio). For this message, rather than repeat my Bio, I will share a little deeper about my beliefs and practices as an educator. This year marks my 33rd year in education and 17th in Jefferson County Public Schools. While I unexpectedly ventured into becoming a teacher late in my college studies, I fell in love with it immediately. I knew I would be a principal and enjoyed my seven years in the classroom tremendously. Through the years, I learned what it means to be an educator, to care about my students and to hope every day that I could make a difference. I learned what a challenging profession this is and I continue to strive to meet the various needs of students. More than anything, I love the connections I make with students, families and colleagues. I love the magic that happens in classrooms and I love it when students persevere through a challenge and feel a sense of pride in their accomplishment. Incredibly, along the way, my beliefs about education evolved and it is these beliefs that bring me to school every day and the desire to work at D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School. I believe in continual reflection on my practice and actions. I maintain a growth mindset, to get better and make the greatest impact on the success of the school. I pledge to listen to all stakeholders, analyze multiple data points and information, and I will always consider how we can be better every day for the students we serve. I believe in relationships. It is important for every student who walks through our doors to connect with someone. Not just their peers, but also a caring adult who believes in them, who views them as a unique individual who has the right to learn and feel safe, and who will empower them to reach their highest potential. You will see me in the halls, in the classrooms and interacting with students. This is what brings me the greatest joy. I believe in shared leadership anchored to a collective vision. I believe that a relentless focus on student growth is critical. I view the school staff and families as partners who work to lead, learn and grow together for the success of the school community. I believe every role within an organization is important, from the classified staff, to the students, teachers, parents and community partners and volunteers. I believe in collaborative learning – I know I am not always the expert and it takes multiple talents to grow our students. I am committed to the growth of people, and I nurture a school culture of collective learning and efficacy. I believe that leadership is about being present for people and building a community at work. I will commit to giving our staff the structures, support and space so they feel supported and can be their best for our students. I believe children should be engaged in work that matters. I believe that as a staff we should plan engaging lessons, help our students connect their learning to the bigger world and see the possibilities in what could be. Learning can be messy but every student should have those “sparks” along the way and find joy in school. I believe in every child who walks through our doors, no matter what. This matters in education. I will never give up on a student and I will work relentlessly to support them in their learning journey. Again, I reiterate that I am honored to be your school principal at D’Evelyn! I am looking forward to our work together and making a difference in the lives of our students.

We are excited to invite you to Back to School Night on August 25th. This event provides parents the opportunity to meet teachers and administration, receive an overview of content and classroom expectations, and determine the best methods for communicating directly with teachers. This year’s Back to School Night will be held in person at D’Evelyn from 6:00-8:00pm. Parents will have the chance to hear opening remarks from D’Evelyn’s principal, Dr. Rob Bishop, and follow their student’s class schedule to meet their teachers. Class periods will be carried out in 10-minute increments with 5-minute passing periods. Over the course of the evening, you are encouraged to visit each of your child’s classes in accordance with the bell schedule. Due to limited classroom spacing, this event is for parents only and we ask that students not attend. Additionally, please have access to your student’s class schedule, which you can access through the Infinite Campus App. Back to School Night is an important opportunity to build strong relationships within our community. We look forward to seeing our families as we set out on the 2022 - 2023 school year.
