By: Dr. Rob Bishop, Principal I am happy to say that by many measures, the school year is off to a great start at D'Evelyn. Students and teachers alike have settled into their academic routines and are deeply engaged in meaningful teaching and learning. Additionally, students, coaches, and club sponsors are well underway with the fall sports and activities. Keep your eyes and ears open for timely updates on our extracurricular events and activities from Mr. McCaslin-Hahn, our Athletic/Activities Director. I am grateful for the efforts of all D'Evelyn community members towards a successful start to the school year. Especially to the members of the D'Evelyn Education Foundation and all the volunteers that helped with the 22nd annual D'Evelyn Dash. This year's Dash was fantastic and fun for all who participated. With the Labor Day weekend ahead, I want to remind us that the time in school between this traditional close of summer and Thanksgiving can be challenging. As I mentioned at Back to School Night, the intensity and homework expectations will increase, with more tests and assignments, and fewer extended weekends or breaks for our students and teachers. I know these coming weeks will challenge our students; however, I am confident that a good start to the school year and continued meaningful academic engagement will serve our students well over time. Long weekends are a great time for students and families to have an extended break from the typical routines of the school week, but they also present a great opportunity for travel. For our senior high school students, extended weekends are a great opportunity to visit colleges and universities. I hope that the additional days off school will serve the needs of our students, families, and teachers very well. Have a great Labor Day weekend and I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday. Student drivers are now able to pick up a parking permit. See Campus Supervisor Bob Byerly in the main office either before or after school or during lunch break. Before picking up, students must fill out the online or paper parking application, pay for the permit (see Mr. Sheikhan in the financial office), and bring a copy of their driver's license and proof of insurance.

Junior High Back to School BBQ Success Thank you to all who turned out at Clement Park last week for the Junior High Social Committee Back to School BBQ. We had a huge turnout with hundreds of families and friends. The weather was marvelous, great food was brought by all and the kids really enjoyed playing games, running the fields, and being together. A very special thanks to our amazing volunteers, especially; Jen Story, Mike & Leslie Kibbee, Soumita Datta, Norma Mayes, Josh and Kelly Benninghoff, Rita Dale, Liang Chen, Kelly & Nora Brooks and Dan Jones and anyone else I may have missed. This event could not have happened without your dedication and due diligence. Event photos are available online.
