It’s official – October Count Day this year is Monday, October 3. Once again, we are upon that annual statewide event called the “October Count”. At this juncture as a parent of a Junior or Senior high student, this is not your first October Count. As a reminder, the most important action you can take to support our school funding is to make sure your student attends school on October 3. Although, I do ask that you follow the current post-pandemic protocol and keep your student at home as needed. The “count window” the state observes is from Monday, September 26 through Monday, October 10, but the most important student count day is Monday, October 3. Please help us ensure an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day. If your child will be absent on Monday, October 3 due to illness, call our attendance line, 303-982-5771 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Monday, October 3. The importance of attendance will have a direct impact on our 2023-2024 school year funding. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on the October student count so we encourage you to be sure your child engages in school that day. Thank you for your support of D’Evelyn. Every child counts! School Safety and Security Update Speaking of school funding and budgeting and student count, it is no secret that Jeffco Schools has experienced a decreasing trend in student enrollment across the district in recent years. I want to assure you, however, that your students and our campus remain safe and secure. I credit this largely to our diligent efforts toward our safety and security practices as well as some recent upgrades to the facility. Our School Response Team, which is a team of staff members that oversee and conduct our emergency response, is well trained and we have been conducting the routine training, security checks, and drills as required by local agencies and Jeffco Schools Security. Since our opening, we have conducted two fire drills with very satisfactory results, and are currently planning our annual Lockdown Drill to be conducted in October (more on this at a later date). As part of the 2018 Bond/Mill Levy projects approved by voters, D’Evelyn has added cameras and upgraded our video surveillance system. And most importantly, we have redesigned and updated our secure entry point at the front entrance of the school. We are also privileged to have a full-time School Resource Officer, Greg Everhart, a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff. However, with all this happening, due to budget reductions and workforce shortages, D’Evelyn was reduced from two Campus Supervisors down to one. While this has not compromised our campus safety and security, it has put an added demand on our front office staff. This added demand is specifically related to the priority of staffing our secure entry area. Many parents have positively commented on the added level of security as you are initially “buzzed” into the front vestibule and then have to provide identification and reason for entering the school before being admitted to the main office or front lobby. This process requires the security check-in window to be staffed from 7:30-3:30 every day. In the past, this was mostly handled by our two Campus Supervisors. I present all of this information as I do not foresee Jeffco Security in the position to staff us with a second Campus Supervisor anytime soon. The option being considered by the administration is to staff the security window with parent volunteers. This is in the early stages of planning, however, we are seeking the interest of parents to determine if this is even viable. If you are interested in volunteering your time and learning more about the time and training commitment, you are invited to complete the interest survey linked here. Again, I assure you that your student's safety and security are my priority and our campus is in good hands with our current security team SRO - Deputy Everhart, Campus Supervisor-Bob Byerly, and the D’Evelyn faculty and staff.
Student pictures have arrived and are available for pickup in the main office. If you have not already ordered pictures online, the picture packet in the office will contain ordering information. Picture retakes will take place on Tuesday, September 27. The ordered picture packet will need to be returned at the time of retakes.
Student ID Cards have arrived and can be picked up in the main office. Students who purchased an activity/sports pass need to confirm the pass is indicated on their student ID. If an activity pass was paid for as part of your student's school fees and not indicated on their ID, the Financial Office can provide a sticker. Payment will be required at the gate of sporting and activity events if the Student's ID does not have the activity/sports pass sticker.
The math department has 17 extra TI-inspire II calculators for sale. To purchase one, students can bring a check for $132, made out to DHS, to their math teacher, or Mrs. Weber, by next Friday, September 30. First come, first serve!

Zach White was just one shot off qualifying but had an outstanding round. And Senior Easton Robberson had a great round in his last tournament as a D’Evelyn golfer. Taj and Graham will play in the State Tournament at Pinehurst Country Club on Monday, October 3rd, and Tuesday, October 4th. Congratulations to Coach Chris Boswell and the entire team for an amazing season.
