This Thursday, October 13th, D’Evelyn will not have 7th hour. Students will be released from school at the end of 6th hour, which is at 1:40 pm. Parents may pick their students up at this time, instead of our normal 2:30 pm release. That afternoon, D’Evelyn will be hosting the Jefferson County High School League Cross Country Meet. The 18 Jeffco League 4A and 5A schools will all be in attendance for the 8 races that afternoon. The first race will start at 3:00 pm and the last race will begin around 6:00 pm. In order to accommodate the large crowds coming onto campus in the afternoon, we wanted to give our families time to get off campus and home without interference. We thank you for your flexibility. Please contact Mr. McCaslin-Hahn if you have any questions.

D’Evelyn would like to thank D’Evelyn Graduate and NASA Astronaut Matthew Dominick for his kindness and generosity on Friday! He took time out of his busy schedule to come back to his home school and inspire the next generation of Jaguars. His humble and gracious attitude toward every student and adult he met throughout the day was inspiring. He excitedly embraced his former teachers and enjoyed reconnecting with them for the first time in years. His motivational speech during the 7th-hour Pep Rally inspired the D’Evelyn students to embrace that D’Evelyn is worth the academic struggle and will pay off with tons of possibilities for careers after graduation. He then excitedly joined in the tug-of-war game of Staff vs. Seniors. Thanks to Astronaut power, the Staff prevailed over the Seniors! Then after school, he had lunch with our club The Society of Women Engineers and had a talk with them about what he is doing at NASA and his journey after graduating from D’Evelyn. He met with them for an hour and a half, answering every question they had. Then he joined the larger D’Evelyn and Dennison Community in the Auditorium for his NASA presentation. He spent 45 minutes taking us through his journey as a NASA Astronaut, all the details about what exciting things are going on right now, and what our plans are in the future. He then again graciously took questions for over 30 minutes from everyone in the audience. Then he moved to the Main Gym where he met with every audience member, signed a picture for them with a personal message, and posed for pictures with anyone who wanted them. His endurance and attitude of giving back throughout the entire day was inspiring! Thank you to D’Evelyn parent Jack Dyson for organizing this homecoming! Without Mr. Dyson’s help, Astronaut Dominick would not have been able to make it back to D’Evelyn. Thank you to Senior Catalina Dyson for organizing the Society of Women Engineers lunch and meet and greet. This was a great small setting for our students to get to hear more about the possibilities they have in their future. Thank you to Assistant Principal Dan Wille for setting up the structure of the visit! Mr. Wille planned a few years ago to bring Astronaut Dominick home, but it, unfortunately, fell through at the last minute. We were grateful for the foundation of the visit already set up, which allowed the events on Friday to run smoothly. And thank you to Matthew Dominick for being such a wonderful inspiration to our entire community. He is one of only 40 Astronauts in the United States, but his humble personality and gracious attitude gave our students a role model to follow. Friday was another reminder of why D’Evelyn is such a wonderful community. Thank you all for everything that you do to make D’Evelyn the best school in the state! The picture below best represents D’Evelyn. During the SWE meet and greet, one of our Seniors asked Matthew to sign her D’Evelyn calculator! Go Jags!

The D'Evelyn Administration is seeking interest in parent volunteers staffing the front entrance security check-in window. In the past, the window has been staffed 7:30 am - 3:30 pm by one of our two Campus Supervisors. However, we do not foresee Jeffco Security in the position to staff D'Evelyn with a second Campus Supervisor anytime soon. If you are interested in volunteering your time and learning more about the time and training commitment, you are invited to complete the interest survey linked here.
