A short work week and a long weekend have left me with little time to ponder my thoughts for Principally Thinking this week. So allow me to briefly share with you some great things happening with several D’Evelyn Alumni. Recently, we were honored to host D’Evelyn graduate Matt Dominick, who is currently assigned to NASA as an astronaut scheduled to return to the moon in the near future. See the links below for more about Matt and his visit to D’Evelyn. Additionally, a very nice story was published this past July on the University of Colorado Aerospace Engineering Sciences website. The story features three D’Evelyn graduates and brothers; Phil, Alex, and Dom Miceli. I am sure you will enjoy reading the story linked here. It’s always a pleasure to hear about our past graduates' success, the great things they are doing, and the impact they have on our world. GO JAGS!
D’Evelyn’s Student Voice is hosting a Halloween Spirit week this week.
A reminder to all families that D'Evelyn will have a 2-hour delayed start this Thursday, October 27. This late start along with the other late starts scheduled on February 2nd and May 4th are part of the negotiated agreement between Jeffco Schools and the Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA). On these days, the 2-hour delay bell schedule will be followed and the school store will be closed.

Junior High Social Committee will host an after-school event for 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders at Roller City on Friday, November 4th from 3 - 5 pm.
By: Ariahn Knoedler, Steering Committee Parent-Vice Chair
My name is Ariahn Knoedler and I am the newest parent member of the D’Evelyn Steering Committee. I am writing to ask you to consider serving on the Steering Committee as we will have two parent vacancies for the next term starting the 2023-2024 school year. I volunteered at Dennison for years, and since my kids started attending D’Evelyn in 2018, I started volunteering by helping out with various social activities. I then started participating in accountability meetings, helped with several textbook and curricular committees, and observed steering meetings for several years. There are many wonderful ways to help serve at our school and I determined that the Steering Committee is a big reason why our school has maintained such impressive standards of excellence throughout its existence. I completed the required reading several years ago but decided with all four of my girls at D’Evelyn, this year I would pitch and serve on Steering. So far, it has been great - it is a time commitment of four or five hours a month but I am enjoying meeting teachers, and learning about the behind-the-scenes at our great school. If you are thinking about running for one of the parent spots, the first step would be to read our founding document. Then, if you even have the smallest interest in serving on the Steering Committee next year, please plan to attend our Steering Committee training on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:30 pm (following the accountability meeting- this meeting satisfies one of the required pieces of the application process). In the meantime, you are also welcome to reach out to me personally and I am happy to answer any questions you may have! (303-641-6166 or [email protected])

She challenges herself to learn and apply each math concept we learn in class and shares her problem-solving abilities as well. Her quiet focus and sense of humor are great additions to our classroom environment.” -Mr. Davis: Math Teacher
Sofia Cieslewicz, 11th grade
“The math department is proud to recognize Sofia Cieslewicz for excellence in honors pre-calculus. Intuitive and curious, Sofia craves intellectual challenge and consistently shows her interest in understanding concepts more than simply mimicking process. Sofia is tantalized by learning and committed to mastering the most difficult concepts. I often joke that when she writes her name on a test, she should write “The Key” Cieslewicz since her answers are likely 100% correct. Congratulations Sofia!” -Ms. Cannon: Math Teacher
Kieran Burton, 9th grade
“Kieran’s enthusiasm and joy brings liveliness to our first-period algebra 2 class. He has achieved at a high level this year and his propensity to seek knowledge will continue to see him reach new heights. I have witnessed Kieran’s humor bring smiles to the faces of those he interacts with, and his kindness makes all feel welcome.” -Mr. Otterstetter: Math Teacher
