Life After High School Fair Jefferson County is hosting a life after high school fair for all students and families on March 6th at Arvada High School and March 14th at Alameda International from 2:45 – 5:00pm. This is a hybrid between a college fair, job fair, and a resource fair. There will be multiple businesses there ready to hire students, so students dress professionally and bring a resume. This is a great opportunity for students who are not sure what they want to do after high school, and students who are deciding different career paths. If you have any questions come see your counselor. The Princeton Review – College Night Topic Come join us for our College night topic: Finding Best Fit Colleges. SENIORS Make sure you are finalizing those college applications and begin preparing for the next step. This is an exciting time of year getting to decide the next steps in your young and very bright futures. However, this time can also be overwhelming. Talk to financial aid offices for scholarship opportunities and other financial assistance. If you have any questions about your next steps please contact your counselor! We have a ton of scholarships in our office for students to apply to! If you need scholarships and are unable to make it to the workshops stop by counseling to look at the opportunities! Application deadlines are approaching quickly so don’t wait! Scholarship Workshop Are you stressing about how to pay for college? Starting in January this semester we will be hosting scholarship workshops for students. We have arranged 6 dates throughout the semester during 7th hours to have students come down and explore scholarships. We will provide you with multiple data bases to look at, we will have the scholarship of the day for students to apply to, and help you narrow down options. This is not mandatory, however, we encourage all seniors to come down and apply to at least one scholarship. JUNIORS SAT The SAT is approaching quickly and there have been multiple questions on how to prepare for the state mandated test on April 10th. D’Evelyn is partnering with College Drive to provide our students an in-house SAT prep course. The course will be every Tuesday starting February 27th – March 20th. The time of the course will be from 1:45pm – 3:15pm. Over the course of four weeks students will receive six hours of expert test prep. The cost for the course is $109 and to register for this course you need to call 720-496-2244 and say you would like to register for the “D’Evelyn High School Express Prep course”. College Drive offers other test prep courses outside of D’Evelyn as well if you are looking for more assistance. Khan Academy is another great resource to utilize when preparing for the SAT. Khan Academy has paired up with College Board (the makers of the SAT) to provide FREE test prep online. This is a great resource because they have 8 free practice tests, and they have a large amount of practice problems for students to work through. If a student does not understand the problem or needs assistance there are videos and hints the website provides as well. Khan Academy states that if a student spends 20 hours practicing on their website, on average their score will increase by 120 points.
