Counseling Calendar
Preparing for the AP Tests We have one more week of AP testing. Below are the dates and times for each AP test that is offered:
Schedule Changes for 2019-2020 Counselors will be taking schedule changes for next school year beginning on August 6th, 2019. We will be in our offices on registration day to assist students with schedule changes. Remember there are exceptions to schedule changes, and we are not always able to accommodate all requests. If you have any questions about this process, please contact your counselor. SENIORS Make sure you are finalizing those college applications and begin preparing for the next step. This is an exciting time of year getting to decide the next steps in your young and very bright futures. However, this time can also be overwhelming. Talk to financial aid offices for scholarship opportunities and other financial assistance. If you have any questions about your next steps please contact your counselor! We have a ton of scholarships in our office for students to apply to! If you need scholarships and are unable to make it to the workshops stop by counseling to look at the opportunities! Application deadlines are approaching quickly so don’t wait! For those of you who have not payed your transcript fees you need to pay those to receive your cap and gown, so make sure you get those paid ASAP! We want to wish you all the best, and we know that you will go on and do great things. You have been a pleasure to work with, and you all will be missed! JUNIORS Your junior year is quickly coming to an end and before you know it the college application process will be upon you. We highly encourage you to start thinking about your essays over summer, to visit college campuses, re-take the SAT or take the ACT if you want another shot at standardized tests, and to talk to your counselor before break if you have any questions. The college application process is supposed to be a fun experience for your families, not a stressful one. We are here to answer any questions you might have. The more you complete over the summer the less work you have to do in the fall. Information about future SAT or ACT test dates can be found at SAT.org or ACT.org. You can also find links to those websites on the counseling website. If students want to begin working on their common application, which is an application that over 750 schools are using, they can begin filling that out at commonapp.org. If your student is applying to at least two schools that utilize the Common Application, it is a good idea to apply through the Common App instead of the school directly. All of this information can be found online on the institution’s website directly, Naviance, or the Common App website. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your counselor. SOPHOMORES Start participating in meaningful summer activities. Whether those are internships, volunteer experiences, a paying job, or other extracurricular activities. We want you to start building your resume for the college process and this is one of the best summers to engage in meaningful activities. Summer is also a great time to start visiting colleges to find out what type of school environment will best suit you. Your PSAT information should be arriving around the middle to the end of the month and once we have your results we will immediately send them your way. Once your scores are released you should be able to see them on your College Board account as well. If you do not have an account make sure you sign up on their website www.collegeboard.org , and your scores will be linked to your account. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the counseling department. FRESHMEN We hope that you have a wonderful summer break and you start exploring your interests in career fields. Even though college may seem far away, it is never too early to start discovering what type of careers will interest you. Summer is the best time to find internships, begin working, shadow professionals, and talk to members in the community about their careers. |
