The holidays can provide increased time for family, friends, self, and reflection. It can be a time of rest and relaxation. It can be a time of connection and caring for self and others in ways that we have less time for at other times throughout the year. This time of year can also be a time of increased stress and struggle. It can bring added pressures and expectations and difficult memories. There is no singular way to experience this season, but we want everyone to have resources at their fingertips, if needed and helpful. Jefferson County Public Schools provides tons of resources for us on their Jeffco Mental Health and Wellness Hub. Here we can find information about the Jeffco Health and Wellness Seminar Series, mental health resources, information about suicide prevention, community resources, and more. There is a virtual calm room full of tools that we can use to manage emotions and find help in regulating. There is also a fun generosity challenge for us there. If you need to connect with resources for you or a loved one during the winter break or beyond, check out the hub! What’s on the Calendar? Wednesday December 7th - Sources of Strength Meeting during 7th hour Friday Dec 10th - Boys and Girls Mentoring meeting during 7th hour Friday December 17th - National Junior Honor Society meeting during 7th hour National Junior Honor Society students are currently selling World's Finest Chocolate bars for $1.00. The money raised will be donated to a charity or charities that the students' choose. The sale will go through the month of January. On Friday December 17th NJHS will also be hosting a Dairy Queen Blizzard sale after school. Blizzard flavors will be Oreo and Reese's peanut butter cup. Blizzards are $5.00 so don’t forget to bring your money and get down to the main entrance early. Last time we sold out of Blizzards in 14 minutes! Girls Mentoring Friday December 10th is the Girls Mentoring Annual Cookie Celebration. Group leaders will supply the cookies, mentors please bring the frosting and mentees bring sprinkles. We will be having 3 competitions: most creative cookie, most holiday spirit and most comedic. Please go to your classroom first, then head down to the cafeteria for some cookie decorating fun. Can’t wait to see you there! Boys Mentoring Friday December 10th is the Boys Mentoring Annual Holiday Gift Exchange Group leaders will purchase small (dollar store) gifts for all members in their group. We are asking that all mentor/mentee pairs talk about bringing in a fun snack to share with their group. They could bring in homemade cookies or other holiday treats, or they could bring in a bag of chips. There will hopefully be a ton of food, so the portion sizes do not need to be overly large. The boys will start in their classrooms, and then move to a larger group at the appropriate time. We are very excited to celebrate this year! College Update There will be NO College Visits this week. Seniors, please check your transcript deadlines. It takes time to process your transcripts, allow one week before your deadline. The next major deadlines are Dec 15 and Jan 1st. No one will be in the office to send transcripts after Dec 21st. Check the status of your transcripts with Mrs McSwain in Counseling. Misc Information: D'Evelyn Finals Care Packages - Parents are you interested in purchasing a goody bag for your student to munch on during finals week? Goody Bags are distributed to your student during the first final on Dec 20th. Your student will have a nut and peanut free snack/drink during finals from 7:35 am to noon on both days. No lunches will be served on either day of finals. There is an optional allergy version both gluten and dairy free. In addition, you can add a personalized note supporting your student.
