COLLEGE VISITS! Colleges are coming to meet YOU! We are very lucky to have over 70 schools visiting us this year and they are coming to meet all of you. College reps all over the country are learning about our amazing school and the student population, and they are making it a priority to stop by D’Evelyn when they are in town. We encourage all of you 7-12 to sign up for college visits in Naviance. Meeting a college rep is a great way to learn about a school, receive financial aid information, and most importantly get your name out there! This is a great opportunity for every student and we are excited to see you all down for a visit! SENIORS Keep working on those college applications! This is a very busy time of year and applying for college can be stressful. We are working on having a few more common application workshops down in counseling for 7th hour. During that time, you are able to work on your application, get any of your questions answered, and work on other college applications as well! Remember to ask for those letters of recommendation, and if you have any questions come down to counseling! JUNIORS We have the PSAT coming up this month on October 11th! We will have a pre-bubbling session for the test on October 9th during 7th hour. All juniors will be taking the test on this day. Remember you can prepare for the test using Khan Academy. You can also take the practice test in the back of your student guide, which was handed out last week during your English classes. We are looking forward to seeing all of you there. Juniors, get ready for a case study presentation during 7th hour on October 23, 24, and 25th! You will be required to attend on one of those days based on your last name. This case study is designed to help prepare you for thinking about the college process. This will be a great informational session and will provide you with tools you need to begin the college process. SOPHOMORES Hello Sophomores! On October 16, 17, and 18th during 7th hour we will be holding a great personality assessment and activity. This is required for all sophomores to attend and you will be informed on what day you need to attend based on your last name. This activity will help provide you more insight on your personality and learning styles. Knowing that information will help you be successful in the workforce as well as in college. We look forward to seeing you on those days! FRESHMEN Have you ever wondered what colleges look for in applications? Or what you can start doing now to help you stand out on a college application? Well don’t you worry; on October 30, 31 and November 1st we will be bringing you down during 7th hour to join us for the admissions game. This game is designed to help bring an awareness to the application process and how to set up your remaining years in high school. This is a very informative session, and you will be required to attend one of the days based on your last name. COUNSELING TIPS We recognize that a main concern at our school is the amount of stress homework, extracurricular activities, tests, and all the other factors that play into a school day can have on our students. As a counseling department we are constantly trying to develop effective strategies on how to deliver information about coping with stress. Each month we are going to have a 'Counseling Tips' section to share strategies related to a specific topic. Our first topic is about stress and how to cope with stress. Everyone experiences stress from time to time, and it is defined as how our brains and bodies respond to any demand. Stress can affect our health and other aspects of life if we do not learn how to cope with it effectively. One of the most important things we can do is learn our own personal signs of stress. If we are able to recognize how are body and mind start responding when we experience stress we can implement coping strategies before the stress becomes chronic. Not all stress is bad. There are studies that show when we are under moderate stress our performance levels rise, and it can help us prepare for tests or interviews. There are many positive ways to cope with stress:
