Attention Parents! Jefferson County Public Health and Jeffco Public Schools are working together to educate students about the risks of vaping. Ads are currently running at your school during athletic events on large electronic display boards and all schools have been provided with posters and/or flyers to put up. If you have not seen the posters in your student’s school, please contact the school counselor to inquire. Both the ads and the posters direct youth to TobaccoisNasty.com, an interactive website for teens, that includes information about the harms of vaping and other tobacco use. You can also visit https://www.tobaccofreeco.org/product-facts/vaping-ecigs/ for more information about vaping and https://www.speaknowcolorado.org/ for guidance about speaking to your student about drug use. Please contact Jen Bolcoa, Health Education Liaison with Jeffco’s Healthy Schools Program, at [email protected] or 303-982-6505 with any questions. Falcon Bluffs is located at 8449 S. Garrison Street, Littleton, CO 80128. We need lots of help all night long for After Prom at The Ridge Rec Center in Littleton. Volunteer from 7-11 PM, 11-6 AM or 4-6 AM. Don't worry, your child will likely not even see you there. There are so many activities, people and action going on you will be but a fleeting memory. We need over 100 parents for set up and over 50 to help during the night. Please volunteer, it is the only way to see what everyone talks about! It is going to be another spectacular year of memories.
Please volunteer, we need you! It is only one night and lots of fun. Thank you in advance for helping! Every item available for purchase on www.amazon.com is also available on AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com) at the same price. In fact, AmazonSmile has tens of millions of products product detail pages. Please consider using these two websites when making online purchases! By Ralph K. Spencer, D'Evelyn Education Foundation Board of Directors Did you know that the D'Evelyn Education Foundation (DEF) budget is between $70 and $80,000 each year??? A phenomenal sum, to say the least, and one that requires the participation of every single D'Evelyn parent AND their students. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the adage that students at our amazingly successful school are receiving a private school education at public school prices. This maxim has been true since the school began in August 1994 and continues to this day. To continue this long-standing tradition, the entire D'Evelyn community must commit to helping raise funds whenever and wherever possible. The Dash, the annual Dinner Auction, and the Annual Giving Campaign are perhaps the most familiar ways for community members to contribute to DEF. However, there are lesser known forms of fundraising that every parent and student can participate in every day that will not affect their wallets in any way. Hard to believe? Please read on! King Soopers and Safeway Gift Cards are a perfectly painless way to fundraise for D'Evelyn. Proceeds to D'Evelyn equal 5% of all purchases, including gasoline. King Soopers cards are not only free from D'Evelyn representatives, they come preloaded with $2.50, as do the Safeway cards. These proceeds are a major source of funds for DEF. We have been receiving slightly over $1,000 each month from these cards but could easily double that figure if we could only get more community members to begin using these cards each time they go to King Soopers or Safeway. Let's do the math: D'Evelyn has about 600 families with children in Jr. and Sr. High School. Assume each family spends $1,000 in food and gasoline each month (most likely a conservative estimate). This means that each family spends $12,000 a year on food and gasoline. Multiply this $12,000 x 600 families = $7,200,000 x 5% = $360,000 going to D'Evelyn each year! If only 1/2 of the D'Evelyn community participated, D'Evelyn would receive $180,000. If only 1/4 of the families participated, $90,000 would go to D'Evelyn, or enough to cover the entire DEF budget for an entire year!!! By the way, both the King Soopers and Safeway cards are reloadable and available from me, Ralph Spencer, at 303-979-9175 or [email protected]. Please consider using this painless fundraising tool to help DEF continue its support of our incredible school! |
