They may be one of those necessary evils of academic life, but Finals don't have to be completely dreaded when you order your student a Finals Care Package. Finals Care Packages are an easy way to reward your student for hard work, give him/her something to look forward to during Finals week, and contribute to the fundraising efforts for Prom and Senior Banquet. Finals Care Packages consist of two bottled drinks (typically iced teas), and 8-10 snacks that vary each semester. Snacks are typically a balance between granola bars, fruit snacks, pretzels, popcorn, and sweet treats like licorice, mints, chocolate bars, and jolly ranchers. All bags are completely nut free. There is also an option to order a bag that in addition to being nut free, is also dairy and gluten free. Parents are invited to write a personal note of encouragement that is included in their student's bag. All bags are delivered the morning of your student's first Final directly to their classroom. If you forgot to order them in advance and want to order for Spring Finals, the price is $15. The fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to order Finals Care Packages is during Registration this summer when you pay your fees. They are listed as an Optional Fee and both semesters are sold as a single unit costing $22. All funds raised from the sale of Finals Care Packages goes toward funding for Prom and Senior Banquet. If you are interested in joining in on the fun and helping to stuff the 650+ bags that are assembled each semester, watch for an announcement a couple of weeks before Finals to sign up to volunteer. You can also find more information on the D'Evelyn Website under Support>Fundraising>Finals Care Packages. Do you have a connection to some discounted/free snacks or bottled drinks for the Final Care Packages bags? Perhaps you might work for a company that might be able to donate some of their product? If so, please contact Tara Sawinski @ [email protected] before April 20. D'Evelyn Jr/Sr High has participated in the Box Tops for Education program for the past 4 years. This past year we earned just over $795.00 for the school. We are currently looking for a Junior High parent that is interested in taking over as coordinator for this worthwhile and profitable program. The time commitment is about 3-5 hours per semester, depending on the amount of Box Tops collected. John Fielder’s visit on March 8th was a great cultural event. During seventh hour John met with interested students about photography and his career. In the evening the auditorium was filled with our extended community who enjoyed stories of his winter adventures – back country skiing, hut trips, family, as well as a few photography tips and the opportunity to view some beautiful images of Colorado in winter. The event was also successful as a fundraiser, raising $1,234 for the art department. With the proceeds, the art department plans to purchase studio lighting to benefit D’Evelyn students. This includes off camera flashes and speed lights, light boxes/soft boxes and umbrellas, a studio backdrop with various backgrounds, gels (lighting filters which allow the photographer to change up colors) and a light meter reader/remote flash control. This will allow students to learn more technical and studio concepts by setting up lighting for professional head shots and portraits as well as setting up still life shots and creating high speed photos. Students will be able to experiment in class by learning how to set up lighting and use the lights to help push their techniques, creativity, and photo knowledge. Learning to control light indoors under managed conditions also teaches students important concepts used when moving outdoors. Cultural events that augment the regular learning process are an important part of education both for students as well as for our community. If you have an idea of a speaker you would like to see visit D'Evelyn in the future, we’d like to hear from you. We are also seeking help organizing future events. Contact us at [email protected] By Lisa Porter Increasingly, students are bringing personal, electronic devices to school. Many of them are using cellular data when they could use Jeffco’s wireless. Many students say that our wireless is slow; however, they are using the community wifi, which is an open network. In an effort to accommodate student use of these devices, as part of the overall learning environment and to provide access to a secure wireless network, the Jeffco-Instructional network (BYOD) is available for student use. It is more robust than the community network. *Students will not automatically be able to connect their personal devices to the Jeffco-Instructional (BYOD) network. Both the student and a parent/guardian must agree to opt in to the Jeffco Instructional network (instead of Community) through Jeffco Connect. Once both student and Parent/Guardian opt in, the students will be able to set up their personal devices to connect to the network. Approval process in Jeffco Connect: Parent Instructions Student Instructions If students need help, they can come to the library for assistance! The 2018 D’Evelyn DASH, to be held on August 25th, is right around the corner and we are currently seeking sponsorships. Not only will your business receive extensive exposure to our D’Evelyn families, but the promotion you receive will extend out to the general public in the form of posters and door hangers distributed throughout the community. For more information on sponsorship benefits, click here. We estimate that with the combined DASH 5k2k, the high school cross country meet, and the collection of promotional booths set up, the DASH draws roughly 3,000 people over the course of the morning! Sponsorships are available from $150 to $1,000. The minimum level puts your logo on the event t-shirt and all promotional materials as well as entitles you to set up a booth the day of the DASH. A major benefit reserved for the $500 and up level is the inclusion for your logo on 2,500 door hangers we distribute around the community. For more information on how you can become a D’Evelyn DASH Sponsor, please contact [email protected] or click here and fill out a sponsorship form today!
