I have been involved in the D’Evelyn Performing Arts (DPA) for the last 11 years. Having been involved at the elementary school level, it became apparent the type of support needed at D’Evelyn would be much different. Because my daughters played violin, involving myself in a group that supported performing arts was a natural. I started by organizing the choir and instrumental group concert socials. As my daughters' interests in drama and musical productions expanded, so did my involvement. Over the years, I have been the DPA treasurer, fundraising coordinator, secretary, as well as running concessions, flower sales and cast parties, and helping organize and prepare the Melodrama spaghetti dinners.
I knew that what I was doing offered support to those who were making a significant difference in my children’s lives. I owe eternal gratitude to all of the performing arts teachers for what they have offered not only to my children, but to all of D’Evelyn’s students: Mrs. Shibly with her nurturing vocal musicianship, Mr. Murphy with his passion for drama and improvisation, Ms. Hanna with her patient and organized ability to coordinate behind the scenes elements of costuming and props, and both Mr. Martin and Ms. Paschke, the instrumental music teachers during my children’s D’Evelyn experiences, who both have effectively taught all types of instrumental music, and have also lead D’Evelyn to repeated Marching Band championships for several years in a row. All of these teachers have given above and beyond their roles as educators and offer D’Evelyn students experiences and opportunities beyond the academic school hours that they might not otherwise have. It truly has been a pleasure to support them. I am appealing to you to step forward and take on a little added responsibility so that our performing arts events can continue to support the teachers who support our students and so that D’Evelyn students may continue to have this enriching experience. DPA needs a treasurer, fundraising coordinator, volunteer coordinator and coordinators for socials, concessions, production cast parties, and the melodrama spaghetti dinner. Being involved with DPA not only has enriched the lives of the students who do performing arts at the school and the teachers that offer these opportunities, but it has enriched my life as well. I am reminded of one of the songs from the musical Wicked “For Good”. In the song, Elphaba and Glinda sing that through knowing each other, their lives have been changed for good and for better. My involvement in DPA has changed me for “good”. My memories of supporting those that have made a difference in my daughter’s lives will be very fond ones for me. Please consider enriching your life as well. Sincerely and farewell, Cindy Christnacht People interested in becoming involved with the board of DPA can contact Mr. McWhorter or any of the performing arts teachers.
