I would like to introduce you all to the Jaguar Head Baseball and Softball Coach Mr. Dan Porreco. Coach P has been coaching baseball at DHS for 25 years and softball for 15 years. Coach P is also one of our Physical Education teachers, teaching Lifetime Fitness, Weight Training, and one section of Junior High School physical education. Coach Porreco was born and raised in Arvada and attended Regis High School. Dan received a baseball scholarship and played at both the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo and later at the University of Wyoming. He also holds a master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Phoenix. Coach P has over 200 wins coaching softball, and over 300 wins in baseball. Over the years in softball he has coached DHS teams to 16 Final Sixteen appearances, 2 Final appearances, 2 Final Four appearances, and 2 State Championship runner-up trophies. Coach Porreco has coached several teams in the summer, been a coach at Wheat Ridge High School and been a Coach at Metro State University. Coach P has a true passion for both baseball and softball, D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High School in general, and the players he coaches. Dan is married to Tracy and they have 4 children, all that have or will graduate from D’Evelyn. Softball season for 2018 is completed, but Coach Porreco would love to see you out at the Jaguar Baseball Field come Spring. Go Jags! Each month coaches have the opportunity to nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. In order to be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches. By Sarah Porter If you haven’t yet, make sure to congratulate and/or come out and support our D’Evelyn Cross Country team, because we’ve had an amazing season so far! A quick summary of our season: we got super soft 25th Anniversary t-shirts, had a very successful Chipotle fundraiser, and have been CRUSHING IT at meets. Our girls team is consistently led by sophomores Katy and Taylor Haerbig, freshman Eliana Thompson, sophomores Kati Livingood and Sonja Morin, and senior Corin Zapico. They have come away from all of our meets with strong team and individual performances, so much so that the Columbine Courier even highlighted our girls specifically in an article about the Dave Sanders Invite! We have high hopes for top finishes at League, Regionals, and State, and we are confident that with the training plan we’ve set in place, the natural talent they have, and all of their hard work, they will continue to have great success!
Our boys team this year is led by senior Caleb Feagans, followed closely by sophomores Andrew Jossi, Abe Saks, and Isaac Lopez. This season has been an exercise in rebuilding a strong Varsity core team, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow and improve during the rest of this season into next Fall. As always, we are excited to welcome student-athletes of all ability levels into our program and train them to be resilient runners like the boys in our program now. As always, if you’re interested in seeing any other photos from our season not included in this article, please follow us on Instagram and Twitter or visit sarahpphotography.smugmug.com and navigate to “action” section of the portfolio. And, don’t forget that XC is one of the more under attended sports in the school - get out, enjoy the sunshine, and watch us race at a meet - we have League at Clement Park on October 11th, and Regionals on the 18th on our own D’Evelyn Dash course! It’s only about 10 minutes from school and would mean the world to our athletes and coaches if you were able to come out and support! Lisa has pretty much given her full adult life to D’Evelyn! Head Coach Girls Cross Country for 16 years Head Coach Girls Track & Field for 22 years (5-time recipient of 4A Jeffco Coach of the Year) After earning a Bachelor of Arts in English, Russian and Russian Studies from St. Olaf College, Ms. Porter accepted a job to teach English at D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School where she taught for several years. When D’Evelyn moved south to its current location, Lisa changed careers and stayed to open The Manning School’s library having earned her Master’s in Library Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University. During this time, she also developed online curriculum and taught Russian for the district’s Virtual Academy (all the while continuing to coach at D’Evelyn). She eventually returned to D’Evelyn as the Teacher Librarian in 2007 (awarded Exemplary Performance Highly Effective Library Program) and enjoys balancing the role of technology coordinator with information literacy. Her children, Sarah and Micah, are both D’Evelyn alumnae. Sarah currently teaches and coaches at Arapahoe High School and Micah is in his first year at Concordia University. When not spending time with her children (or yours), Lisa loves biking, running, traveling and reading! As the 2018 Cross Country Season begins to wind down, there are still some very important meets coming up, including the League Meet, Regionals and the State Meet on October 27 in Colorado Springs, which still gives you plenty of opportunity to come out and support the Jags. See you on the course! |
