Coach comes to us with 12 years of coaching experience at both the high school level and with club all-star programs. Coach Frye also was also a Cheerleader in high school and college. In the 3-year short years that Coach Frye has been here at DHS, the program has almost doubled. She is extremely proud of their accomplishments and hard work. Last year the DHS Cheers earned a bid to Nationals in Disney World and this year the team plans to compete at the League, State and Regional level. Coach Frye is married and has two young children and currently lives in Ft. Collins, where she also works as a Realtor. She enjoys snowboarding, traveling, as well as staging homes. Coach Frye would encourage you all to get out to a Jags Athletic Event and if your student has an interest in becoming a D’Evelyn High School Cheerleader, please contact her by contacting the School Athletic Office. Go Jags! CONGRATULATIONS to the Marching Band for an outstanding performance at Jeffco Marching Invitational. This was their debut performance in 3A and they absolutely nailed it! Congratulations on the Band's first - 1st place in 3A!
Preston Slaughter's first coaching experience was during high school, where he coached eight and nine-year old children in soccer at the local YMCA. He played tennis, soccer, and basketball in high school, and then moved on to play intramural basketball and ice hockey in college before walking on to the CU Buffs basketball team. He played two years at CU, averaging 4.1 points per game his senior year in only 4.6 minutes played per game. His greatest achievement was earning the Golden Buffalo Award, which was given to the player who most exemplifies what the coaching staff looks for in a student-athlete: hard work, determination, and being a great teammate. Preston got his master’s degree in mathematics and began teaching in Jeffco. He spent ten years at Arvada High School, where he coached JV girls soccer and Level 3 boys basketball before taking over the varsity boys basketball program in 2007. He turned around a 3-19 program the year before to a 13-11 record, and a rare playoff appearance in the last year Arvada played in 5A. However, he wanted to focus on his teaching and decided to step away from coaching after just one year at the helm. After a few years of a break from coaching, it was clear he couldn't stay away. He returned for one year as the Level 3 coach again, and then took over as head coach one year later in 2013. He remained the head coach until moving to D'Evelyn in 2015. Since then, he has been the D'Evelyn JV boys’ basketball coach, amassing a record of 38-19. He was awarded the D'Evelyn Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2016 after a 18-1 season. He has also coached JV girls’ tennis and is currently also the Head boys’ tennis coach. Amber Cook is a Colorado Native, growing up in Denver where she played 4 years of varsity volleyball at East High School. Opting not to play in college, Amber started her coaching career shortly after high school, now with more than 15 years of coaching experience. She has just started her second season as head coach of the volleyball program at D'Evelyn High School. This year marks her 14th year as part of the D'Evelyn program, coaching all levels from Gold Crown to JV teams throughout the years. Amber also has previous experience coaching with several smaller club programs in the South Denver Metro area. Coach Amber has been married for 8 years to Jarid, has 1 daughter Addison and is expecting another daughter in December! Amber is Assistant Director of Campus Events on the Auraria Campus in Denver. Coach Amber and all her staff would love to see you all come out and support the Lady Jags Volleyball Program! Each month coaches have the opportunity to nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. To be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches.
