If you are considering taking an AP class you will need to attend the AP meetings. If you have any questions please talk to your counselor. SENIORS Our first day back for second semester we will be meeting with all of the seniors to complete their senior year ICAP. During this time we will go over the FAFSA, financial aid, Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF), talk about the scholarship search, and have Mr. Ralph Spencer share information about the D’Evelyn Education Foundation Scholarships. This will be a very important day, as students will become more familiar with the financial side of paying for college. We will also go over any last minute college deadline information. Please look at any schools you have not applied to and recognize those deadlines. The college application season is coming to an end quickly, and we want to make sure you have everything you need! Scholarship Workshop Are you stressing about how to pay for college? Starting in January this semester we will be hosting scholarship workshops for students. We have arranged 6 dates throughout the semester during 7th hours to have students come down and explore scholarships. We will provide you with multiple data bases to look at, we will have the scholarship of the day for students to apply to, and help you narrow down options. This is not mandatory, however, we encourage all seniors to come down and apply to at least one scholarship. Shadow Day On Friday February 16th, our early release day, we are having another career shadow day. There will be two different options for students to attend on this day. The first option is Lawyers in Court, where we will take around 15 students to the Jefferson County Courthouse and have them shadow a lawyer. Students will attend a general session about being a lawyer, observe a criminal or civil trial, observe a case management conference, see a preliminary hearing, and meet with Judge Pilkington. If you are considering a profession in law or criminal justice this is a great shadow day for you! You will be at the courthouse from 12:30-3:30. For more information stop by the counseling office. The other shadow day option is a visit to Colorado School of Mines. We are able to take up to 40 students for this visit. The agenda for this site will be to receive a tour of the Geology Museum, and then students will break off into two groups. The first group will visit the Geo-Environmental-Microbiology Lab, The center for space resources, and the hydrologic science and engineering program. The second group will visit the department of metallurgical and materials engineering, the robotics and automation lab, and the functional biometrics lab. The earlier you turn in your permission slip the higher chance you get to choose the break-off group you attend. This day will run from 12:45-4:00. For more information please visit the counseling office. JUNIORS ICAP and College Introduction On January 11th, we will be meeting with you during 7th hour to complete the district required ICAP.
