Our series of well-being challenges for students, staff, and community members continues this month with Rachel’s Challenge. This challenge can easily be added to your daily gratitude practice, or it can replace it. As you are aware, Rachel’s Challenge came to D’Evelyn last week, and the challenge was shared with our community through presentations and trainings during the school day. Rachel’s Challenge works to cultivate a culture of kindness and compassion in communities, and challenges community members to make changes in our school, community, and world. This challenge provides each of us with an opportunity for reflection. In considering just the first challenge of “Look for the Best in Others” one might begin with… How can I be more purposeful about addressing any prejudice or bias? Are there times when I jump to conclusions about people before really giving them a chance? Do I give others the benefit of the doubt in most situations? When I am tired or frustrated, do I maintain this perspective? This kind of reflection can identify if and when we might have room for growth in this area, and give us some ideas about addressing it. Being intentional about looking for the best in others rather than allowing ourselves to prejudge gives us the opportunity to grow compassion and connections in our community. It creates space for small acts of kindness and inclusion where we may not have noticed it before.
This month, join others as we work to engage in these reflections and challenge ourselves to make the changes that create more space for kindness, compassion, and connection. Which of the five challenges speaks to you? Start your own chain reaction! Comments are closed.
