By: Jerry McWhorter, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Each month coaches have the opportunity to nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. To be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches. The female Student Athlete for May is Gina Gersabeck Positive attitude, commitment, hard work, and talent . . . are traits that describe a student-athlete. In her first year in Track & Field, Gina Gersabeck exhibits these qualities not only in the classroom but also on the track. She is an incredibly versatile athlete, proving in a short time, to be our best hurdler and jumper while also consistently being pulled to run relays. She’s a phenomenal new addition to the DHS T&F team! Congratulations Gina! Gina was nominated by Coach Lisa Bell. The male Student Athlete for May is Colin Kim Colin Kim is having a remarkable baseball season. Colin is leading his team in almost all offensive categories. He is leading in batting average with a .528, 19 total hits, 14 runs scored, 10 Rbi's, 5 doubles, and 3 Home Runs. What a great start to the season. Colin not only strives for excellence on the field but in the classroom. Every day he strives to be the best he can be. As a junior, he has already verbally committed to The School of Mines.
