The D’Evelyn Service Corps is an amazing way to help the community through real service and to meet great people while you’re at it. Every month, Coach McKellips arranges for a group of Juniors and Seniors to participate in service activities with various organizations. Through the Salvation Army, we had the chance to prepare and serve meals directly to their residents. At the Ronald McDonald House, we were able to meet several different families who had just recently met one another come together to share breakfast while we helped clean their facilities. At Hands Automotive, we got to actually perform basic car maintenance for single mothers, with no prior experience necessary.
The experience of meeting and helping others through the Corps has been indescribable. With a new project every month, it’s likely that everyone can find something that suits them through the D’Evelyn Service Corps. There’s no official membership or formal meetings; any junior or senior with an interest in service should see Coach McKellips. Every month, you’ll see a couple of regulars and plenty of new faces, making it a great way to forge new friendships while serving the community. Written by - Iulia Sava AmazonSmile is a simple way for D'Evelyn community members to support our school. AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of your purchases to the charity (D'Evelyn Education Foundation). It costs you and D'Evelyn nothing, and it's just like shopping on Amazon normally. Items that are eligible for donations will be marked as such on their product pages. The only real catch is you must start your shopping at https://smile.amazon.com/ which is a small price to pay to have a portion of your purchases go to D'Evelyn! We would like to invite D’Evelyn families to consider participating in “Paws for a Cause” - the D’Evelyn Giving Tree Gift Drive. If you would like to provide a gift to support a local family, you or your student can stop by the Jags Giving Tree display in the office. Each of the Paw ornaments on the tree has a gift or age on the front as well as instructions on the back. Feel free to take an ornament or two and then bring back the gift before December 18th. This is a great opportunity for D’Evelyn students to care for families and friends in our community! In addition, if you know of a family that is in need of assistance this Holiday Season, or if your family could use a helping hand, please contact Sonya Sotolongo at 303-982-2619 in the main office. If you have any questions about the Jags Giving Tree please contact Kelly Morris at [email protected]. Thanks in advance for your generosity!!! |
