This school year, Jeffco implemented a district-wide 1:1 learning device program which impacts D’Evelyn freshmen. When the 9th grade students return from Winter Break, they will receive a new Lenovo 300e touchscreen Chromebook as their district 1:1 learning device. Students will keep this device for the next four years to customize and enhance their learning at school and at home. This implementation process will continue for the next three years until all 5th-12th grade students in Jeffco have district 1:1 learning devices.
A “Personalized Technology Use Fee” ($50/year), combined with funding from the 5A mill levy override, helps to cover costs associated with the district 1:1 program including the device and protective case, digital learning tools, internet filtering, bandwidth and additional support. Please visit our school’s 1:1 website for more information. By Greg Kottcamp, Assistant Principal As noted in the student planner and on our school website, the D’Evelyn Fall Finals Schedule will take place over three days. The purpose of the three days of testing is to better support student success on their semester exams by spreading the exams, and therefore exam preparation, over three days. We will still have breakfast available for students, but we will not be serving lunches. Buses will run on the normal schedule in the mornings but will depart the school shortly after the kids are dismissed at noon. Fall 2019, Finals Testing Schedule: We are confident that this schedule will support student achievement during Finals Week. Please extend our best wishes, on a very successful final exam week, to your student(s).
By Katie Lewis, Study Hall and Homework Center
As the end of the semester approaches, we wanted to inform you about two academic support programs new to D’Evelyn this year: Study Hall and the Academic Assistance Center. Study Hall is an in-school class that replaces an elective. It focuses on academic skills such as organization, time-management, studying, note-taking, test-taking, reading, and writing. This class also allows students the opportunity to spend time focusing on the work assigned in their core classes with supervision and support. There are three tiers of criteria we utilize to enroll students in this course based on their core classes. The first tier includes 7th and 8th grade students who end the semester with any Fs or 3 Ds, the second tier includes 7th and 8th grade students who finish the semester with 2 Ds, and the third tier includes 9th grade students who finish the semester with 2 Ds. These students will be contacted to participate in the program. The Academic Assistance Center meets after school from 2:45-4:00 pm and provides students and opportunity to complete homework and receive additional support with daily assignments, larger projects, and/or studying for tests. Students can be referred to attend this program by teachers, administrators, or counselors. They can also voluntarily enroll, by showing up after school. If you are interested in our new support programs, please contact your student’s administrator, counselor, or Mrs. Lewis. |
