By: Mike Dobrowski, Campus Supervisor The straight scoop on parking passes: Yes! Students parking a car at D’Evelyn must acquire a parking pass for their vehicle. The money paid for the annual parking pass goes directly to the school district to pay snow plow drivers, asphalt maintenance, lighting and paint. New drivers have understandably been caught off guard by the enforcement of the parking pass because they were free last year. We decided that during the 20-21 school year it was unethical and rather heartless to charge students for parking passes when they attended less than 50% of the year with regular shut downs and irregularities. Given the lingering uncertainties of the day, our safety and security team have slowly implemented the enforcement of the parking policy for as long as possible. During an emergency, identification of the owners of vehicles in our lot can be a crucial accountability tool. Parking pass fees are prorated at $12.50 per month (currently $62.50) and the parking rules are as follows:
Fines (tickets) vary in cost depending upon the infraction and are meant to be more educational than punitive. After receiving a parking ticket, students have ten days to dispute (negotiate) the charge. This process is also meant to be educational and preparatory in nature and money from parking fines typically pays for safety and security improvements. Please note that handicap parking spaces are regularly patrolled by Jeffco Sheriffs, violations of which carry very hefty fines. Please have your student introduce themselves to Tessie or Mike if they have any questions or concerns.
