Written by: Jenna Spendlove, DEF Executive Director The D’Evelyn Dash is on August 28th, 2021 and we could use your help! Come join a fun team! Here’s how you can get involved: Dash Help Needed We are looking for help in the following categories in addition to day of event help. If you are interested, please email us at [email protected]. We can use your help in any way and would love to work with you! Sponsorships – help solicit sponsorships, in-kind donations Course Co-Chair – help manage all course related matters Over the last 20 years, the D'Evelyn DASH, which is a 5K or 2K run/walk, has grown into a huge community event that served as a fundraiser and a big-kick off to the school year. It is held in conjunction with the D’Evelyn hosted Cross Country meet. All funds raised by the DASH go to the D'Evelyn Education Foundation which supports our students and staff by funding academics, athletics, performing arts, scholarships, technology and textbooks, after prom events, junior high boosters, girls and boys mentoring, and teacher training, just to name a few. The monies provided by DEF benefit every student in some manner throughout their time at D'Evelyn. Written by: Cory Ryckman, Math Department Manager The Math Department will offer summer school for students hoping to avoid repeating a class in the next full school year. Students do the Saxon homework independently, turning in sets weekly. This year, three tests for progress will be administered (June 23, July 7 and July 21) and the final will be given at the end of the summer (July 28). THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS TRYING TO STAY ON GRADE LEVEL. While summer school is preferable to falling behind grade level, it is not the same as in-person instruction. Due to the mostly independent and condensed nature of the course, students must be self-motivated, and hiring a private tutor is recommended. Students who earned a D or an F in both semesters must do the whole year in summer school (about 20 sets per week); students who only earned a D or an F in the second semester only take the second semester in summer school (about 10 sets per week). If your student has a low C, a D, or an F, their math teacher will be reaching out to communicate if they feel summer school is appropriate for your student.
