Written by: Cory Ryckman, Math Department Manager The Math Department will offer summer school for students hoping to avoid repeating a class in the next full school year. Students do the Saxon homework independently, turning in sets weekly. This year, three tests for progress will be administered (June 23, July 7 and July 21) and the final will be given at the end of the summer (July 28). THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS TRYING TO STAY ON GRADE LEVEL. While summer school is preferable to falling behind grade level, it is not the same as in-person instruction. Due to the mostly independent and condensed nature of the course, students must be self-motivated, and hiring a private tutor is recommended. Students who earned a D or an F in both semesters must do the whole year in summer school (about 20 sets per week); students who only earned a D or an F in the second semester only take the second semester in summer school (about 10 sets per week). If your student has a low C, a D, or an F, their math teacher will be reaching out to communicate if they feel summer school is appropriate for your student.
