By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Athlete of the Month winners for the month of January. These winners were chosen by their coaches based on their leadership qualities, work ethic, and other traits that represent what D’Evelyn wants to see in all of their Student-Athletes. They were chosen out of all the Student-Athletes at D’Evelyn. Rebecca Taylor - 12th Grade Rebecca is having a great start to her senior season! At the halfway point of the session, she is averaging a career-best 10.5 points per game and adding 4.3 assists, 4.1 steals, and 1.8 rebounds per game. More than stats, she plays with a basketball IQ that is unmatched in the girl's game. Her court vision and anticipation on defense make her an invaluable player. On and off the floor, she is the unquestioned leader on our team; unanimously voted captain by her teammates. She also looks for ways to involve the younger players in our program and wants to include everyone. Always a “team first” leader, Rebecca has helped guide her team to an undefeated 13-0 overall record, the best start in school history! Her team also won championships at Mountain Vista/Rock Canyon, the Jeffco Jungle Jam, and the Palisade Winter Classic tournaments. We wouldn’t be the same team without her on-court play and her off-court personality. Thanks for all you do, Rebecca! Congrats! -Coach Olson, Head Girls Basketball Coach Ava Anderson - 12th Grade When Ava Anderson dives into the water, she is a game changer in a race for the AquaJags. As a senior, she is versatile in every stroke and distance, having qualified for 3A State in every individual swim event in which she has competed from the 50 Freestyle to the 500 Freestyle to the 200 Individual Medley. As the high-point leader on our team, she is a pivotal anchor leg on our highest-ranking relay that currently stands in 3rd for 3A schools. Her leadership does not stop at the pool edge. She models for the rest of the team how to constructively evaluate her races and adopt the changes needed in training. Her perseverance, calm but positive attitude and drive will ensure her future success both in and out of the pool. -Coach Carpenter, Head Girls Swim & Dive Coach Comments are closed.
