Congratulations Ghis! Thank you for being such a valuable member of our community! By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Athlete of the Month winners for the month of November. These winners were chosen by their coaches based on their leadership qualities, work ethic, and other traits that represent what D’Evelyn wants to see in all of their Student-Athletes. They were chosen out of all the Student-Athletes at D’Evelyn. Clayton Gustafson, 11th Grade “Clayton had an incredible year for his team and program. He was a first-year varsity player that made his way into the starting lineup in a completely different position than what he normally had played in his prior years at D'Evelyn. When told of the change in the position he grasped it with both hands and ran with it and learned all of the specifics and tactics that were associated with it. Clayton continually faced adversity all season long with an open mind and willingness to succeed which saw him switch again to a central role in the defense and the leadership of our backline. The adversity showed up when Clayton fractured his leg partway through our season but he still showed up to training and games every day to help lead and coach his backline teammates and be there to help answer questions. His approach in terms of leadership with his peers was always the highest quality and exceptional honesty. Clayton's most enduring trait is his desire to always be at his best whether it’s on or off the field in everything he does. He’s for sure a shining example of what a successful student-athlete at D’Evelyn should look and sound like. Congrats Clayton on an incredible season!” -Coach Moline, Head Boys Soccer Coach Sambo Heng, 11th Grade “Sambo has really turned things around. His focus in the classroom is light years ahead of where it was in the past. Despite missing the first 3 games with a broken wrist, Sambo was at every practice during his injury and even helped us as an assistant coach during that time. Once Sambo was able to get back on the field he became a ball of dynamite play in and play out. Sambo is starting to become an all-around student-athlete and continues to become an even better person.” -Coach Rankin, Head Football Coach By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Activities Member of the Month winners for the month of November. These winners were chosen by their Activities Sponsors based on their leadership qualities, work ethic, and other traits that represent what D’Evelyn wants to see in all of their Activities Members. They were chosen out of all the Activities Members that participate in outside of school events. Bethany Cook, 12th Grade “I would nominate Bethany Cook for NHS Activities Member of the Month. Bethany has been in NHS for both her junior and senior year and is currently serving as the NHS secretary. I appreciate that Bethany is always willing to step in and help when one of her fellow officers can't attend and she always volunteers for our events with a smile on her face. She is a great addition to the leadership team and I appreciate her hard work.” -Mrs. Bender, Spanish Teacher and NHS Sponsor Reilly Harrington, 11th Grade “This is Reilly's second year on the Forensics Team. She has done both Speech and Debate successfully. Last year, she went to the State Tournament in Congressional Debate. This year she has begun competing in Informative Speaking, earning a ribbon at the Eaglecrest Tournament with her speech about the Matilda Effect where men ignore the contributions of women to the STEM fields. She also used her speaking skills to work with a graduate student to create a program emphasizing positive attitudes toward taking care of mental health issues for high school students.” -Ms. Peters, Forensics Coach By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Heart of D’Evelyn winners for the month of November. The Heart of D’Evelyn Award is intended to recognize students who exemplify the core values that we find in D’Evelyn’s Founding Document. These core values are Responsibility, Honesty, Self-Control, Kindness, and Fairness. These winners were chosen by their teachers based on their actions and behaviors in class, the lunchroom, and the hallways. Tonya Singleton, 7th Grade “Tonya embodies the "Heart of D'Evelyn" spirit with her kind, gracious, humble nature. Tonya speaks sweetly to other students and demonstrates role-model behavior in class. She is a faithful student reading, annotating, writing, and studying to the best of her ability. I am so grateful to have Tonya as a student-- she inspires me to be a better person!” -Ms. Ford, English Teacher Cadlyn Hart, 9th Grade “Cadlyn is an exemplary student. Her focus and determination in class are surpassed only by her positivity and kindness. She strives to persevere when facing tricky new material but always has the patience and enthusiasm to collaborate effectively with teammates and lend a hand to struggling classmates. Her cheeriness every day makes my day ... 1st period Latin II is lucky to have her!” -Ms. Bowman, Latin Teacher By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Scholar of the Month winners for the month of November. They were chosen by the Science Department. Tyler Feighny, 6th Grade “Tyler takes a true interest in Earth Science. He asks thoughtful questions and goes out of his way to help his peers understand. Way to go Tyler!.” -Ms. Ericson: Science Teacher Chloe Menzer, 8th Grade “Chloe Menzer is a wonderful participant in Physical Science! She volunteers to contribute to class discussions and clearly explains science concepts to classmates. She demonstrates great lab techniques, and she is a fun lab partner. She is kind to her peers and welcomes them into new friendships. Chloe, thank you for choosing D’Evelyn! -Ms. Aguiar: Science Teacher Eliza Schurter, 11th Grade “Eliza is doing a phenomenal job in chemistry this year! She comes to class each day ready to learn, and when things are difficult, she comes in to get help and ask questions. In group work and class activities Eliza is constantly working to deeply understand the material, and she asks great questions in class that help her colleagues to better understand things as well. It is not always easy, but her effort is really paying off and she is truly succeeding in chemistry! -Ms. McGee: Science Teacher Paul Dawson, 9th Grade “Paul enters the classroom with a positive attitude, prepared to conquer any content put before him; I don’t think that Paul has ever come to class not prepared for the day’s lesson or lab. Paul consistently answers questions posed in class, sometimes going “out on a limb” and not knowing he has the correct answer, which keeps the ideas flowing in the discussion. Paul genuinely wants to learn and works hard to figure things out on his own, but is proactive in asking for clarification if he does not understand a concept. All of Paul’s academic strengths combined with his sense of humor and overall “good guy” demeanor make him a great student to have in the classroom!” -Mr. Ray: Science Teacher By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Activities Member of the Month winners for the month of April. These winners were chosen by their Activities Sponsors based on their leadership qualities, work ethic, and other traits that represent what D’Evelyn wants to see in all of their Activities Members. They were chosen out of all the Activities Members that participate in outside-of-school events. Aimee Kennedy, 11th Grade “Aimee has always been a strong musician and asset to the D'Evelyn Music Program, but she deserves special recognition for all she has taken on since the beginning of this school year. Aimee passed her audition and was accepted into the Jeffco Honor Choir. She auditioned for All-State Choir which is quite a grueling and stressful process (we are still waiting on the results) where she performed her solo with beauty and expressivity. Aimee also jumped in to conduct the Concert Choir in our National Anthem at a pep rally when I was absent. She also had a duet with Emerson Smith at our concert during our Combined Choir's performance of "Famine Song" which was beautifully done. In addition to these, Aimee remains a quiet, hard worker who always leads by example in punctuality, rehearsal etiquette, and effort. Congratulations, Aimee! This is well deserved.” -Mr. White, Vocal Music Teacher Rayna Hylden, 12th Grade “For the Activities Member of the Month for October, the Marching Band nominates Rayna Hylden! Rayna is the Drum Major for the State Qualifying Marching Band this season. Through her leadership, we have been able to continue the tradition of excellence that the D’Evelyn Marching Band is known for. Thank you Rayna for your energy and enthusiasm through this fall season!” -Dr. Theis, Marching Band Director By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Heart of D’Evelyn winners for October. Clayton Gustafson, 11th Grade “Clayton comes to class every day with a positive attitude. He is engaged with his teachers and friendly to his peers. His sense of humor brings a bright light to the classroom.” -Ms.Sprague, English Teacher Sophia Munnell, 8th Grade “Sophia is new to D'Evelyn 8th grader who is an outstanding role model for her peers. She is honest, responsible, kind, and caring. She is eager to do well and asks great questions in order to improve her work and deepen her understanding of what we are reading and learning. I am so grateful that she chose our school and think she is such a fabulous addition to the 8th-grade class.” -Ms. Sweney, English Teacher By: Eric McCaslin-Hahn, Assistant Principal, Athletics and Activities Director Congratulations to the Athlete of the Month winners for the month of October. Doubles Team: Sean Perkes and Vince Cushnie, 12th Grade “Sean and Vince were the #1 Doubles Team for D’Evelyn this past fall and were the only seniors on our team. They were the leaders of our team on and off the court. Their leadership was a big reason for our success as a team throughout a difficult schedule. Every match they went against the other school’s top team and they did extremely well. We can’t thank Sean and Vince enough for their hard work this season”. Peyton Marvel, 11th Grade “Peyton Marvel is a Junior and plays shortstop for the lady jags softball team. She had another incredible year. She led in almost all offensive categories both for the team and league. Peyton had 49 hits, scored 49 times, 38 stolen bases, and had an amazing .605 batting average. In 95 total at-bats for the season, she only struck out 1 time. She not only is an offensive star, but her defense is spectacular saving multiple games with unbelievable catches. Peyton is a quiet leader that shows by example encouraging all of her teammates to be their best. We are so proud of her not only for her Softball play but her team spirit and leadership.
