Written by: Tim Schmeckpeper, Assistant Principal The Heart of D’Evelyn is an award intended to recognize students who exemplify values such as honor, integrity, compassion, and kindness. Each quarter, beginning in calendar year 2021, we will acknowledge students who embody the heart of D’Evelyn through their actions. Faculty nominations are solicited on a quarterly basis. A committee, composed of staff and student leaders, selects two overall “winners” each quarter for school-wide recognition; additionally, each nominated student will receive a certificate with a copy of their individual nomination form. It is a great honor and privilege to announce that Bria Williams and Faith Vijayabaskaran have been selected by the committee as the inaugural recipients of the Heart of D’Evelyn. Here is what the faculty members who initiated their nomination had to say about these exceptional young ladies: Bria Williams has been our Jr. High Student Council president during this challenging year, and, under her leadership, the Student Council created many wonderful ways to create connections between Jr. High Students, particularly when we were full remote / hybrid. While all the student council members deserve recognition for their work on talent shows, contests, game days, etc., Bria led the way by keeping the council focused and by finding ways for each member to have a voice even when we were all separated. Thanks, Bria! (Brennan Gause) Faith Vijayabaskaran is a model 9th grade student, a kind, caring young lady and an example of integrity and perseverance. It has been an absolute pleasure to be her teacher this year, and I know that many D'Evelyn students benefit from her kindness, compassion, and stoic leadership. She participates often and is always reading and thinking deeply. She has great insight and ideas that she often shares with our class, and her classmates, every day, benefit from her valuable contributions because her insight enhances the depth of our discussion. Throughout the trials and challenges of this school year, I have been grateful for her positive attitude, kind spirit, and hard work. I and her classmates can ALWAYS count on her to show up and give it her all. I have no doubt that she will have continued success at D'Evelyn and that she will make both our school community and our world a better place. (Kristine Sweney) Comments are closed.
